then I can only imagine the Toronto media calling out the Leafs for being apathetic, and that whole debate on the usefulness of Ryan Reaves , Bertuzzi , etc.
It's the kind of situation where one dumb play leads into another ... - Alexzanki
Should have gone over and confronted him and made him drop the gloves to answer instead of shoving a stick into his head. Would have sent the message just as effectively.

doubt Greig will do that and even less Reilly of all players
One game for Lizzotte on Morrissey - so a fine….but he’s a Leaf and after seeing what they did with Spezza and Kadri (both deserving suspensions but the length they got? Yikes) I would say Rielly is kicked out of the league.
Forgot to add - Rielly should have just axed him Trouba did next time. I feel like the problem was that Rielly tried a high cross check and it hit the kids shoulder and came up into his head. That’s the issue. He needed to take a baseball swing or axe chop at the head like Trouba. There was also no cut requiring stitches like what Lizzotte did to Morrissey.
Reilly cross checked the upper shoulder and hit stick rode up the hard shell of the shoulder pad to the neck, didn’t see any head contact, let alone head contact intent.
Hockey is a passionate game, and I’m glad it is. I couldn’t watch a league full of players that have no passion. And yeah, at times your passion gets carried away. I support Reillys intent.

But that’s the point in this clown league - he needed to chop the head or cross check directly into the face (Trouba and lizzotte). He didn’t mean to contact head that’s the issue.
doubly stupid : who cares that he took a slap shot, that right nobody except the dumbasse's on the ice that were more frustrated they lost the game
then its gonna be more than 2 - Xizord
Wasn’t all about the slap shot. He was hacking and cross checking the D all night and being a general Marchand/Perry. So I think they were pretty pissed at him already. Whatever that’s hockey, give him his game and move on.

A goons blatant attempt to injure a young upcoming, star player? 10-15 minimum.
These are the vicious hits that liberal soy lattes are always screeching about getting out of the game, give the sissy babies what they want and toss the book at him. Parros is an extremely smart dude who is spectacular at his job, a Princeton grad. I trust him to handle this in a professional and appropriate manner.
Greig should have shown some respect and just thrown the puck in the net, the slapshot was not needed....but Reilly could have just given him a shove and had a few words. Crosschecking him across the face was so out of line. He should get a long suspension, there could have been a life changing injury done there. It wasn't the playoffs, it was just a game. One loss. A stupid cheap shot and that helps nobody. - Hipcheckforthewin
100% agree.
IF Grieg did that in Toronto, no problem. But doing it at home with having the season we've had, fans of the other team in the building, it makes a lot more sense and I don't see it as a middle finger to the other team but rather a "!" on the win.

Agreed. That is a much better message and is much cleaner.
I don’t see Saros getting moved at the TDL. Trotz is looking for an overpay for a small goalie with his best days in the past. I don’t think he gets it. A 1st, Kaliyev and Turcotte would be realistic.
If LA is inquiring about Saros, they're probably dangling only picks and spare parts like Kaliyev (perpetually scratched), Turcotte (likely to be squeezed out when Arvidsson & Lizotte return from injury) and Roy (most likely to be traded to make room on the right side for Clarke). I don't think that that's going to do it for Nashville.
I'm not really a fan of either the Sens or Leafs, but as an ex player and current fan, the Sens kid's actions anger me much more than Reilly's reaction. It's a total disrespect to the game from top to bottom, from the top brass to he himself, along with current, ex, and future players. You just don't do that.
We are living with a generation of young adults that are so rude, so entitled, and so careless with thoughts, words, money, actions...as someone said "these young people run around mistreating people as if they don't know they can get punched in the f6n face!"...and it's true. A decade or two ago people respected each other more. The reactions to this incident seem to be proof of that.
The kid deserved much MORE than he got, and I thank Reilly for trying to safeguard a little bit of respect for not just the league but society as a whole. I truly believe that if people were more afraid/aware that they might just get a smack in the head, that they would not treat others the way they do. Tough talk on social media is a perfect example...most wouldn't dare speak like that to someone's face.

The remedy for that in hockey is to drop the gloves not smash him in the head with a stick. Someone steals a base 10 runs up in baseball. The remedy is the pitcher knocks him down with a close pitch or even fisticuffs. But if a pitcher hits him in the head or goes after him with a bat it’s an inappropriate overreaction that disrespects the game.
What Greig did was willfully disrespectful of the Leafs. He will do it again next year if he gets the chance. The emotionally fragile Leaf fan base insists they have been disrespected. True! Get over it.
