Hains: In Hainsight: The Blue Line Conundrum
Kent Hughes will have a busy offseason and one of his toughest tasks will be to decide who stays and who goes on the blue line. - Karine Hains
By July 2nd, a lot of these questions should be answered... then it will be up to the players who remain (assuming trades) to win those spots.
Also, if not traded, I think Kovacevic can fill that 6/7 spot next season, rotating in/out with any rookie(s) on the blue line.I agree, I'd hate for a rookie to be stuck as the 7th D, getting to play once every 4-5 games.

Looks like the Avs did the Habs a favour by eliminating the Jets. We should be picking around 22-23 now instead of the late 20's and possible 30's.
I really feel bad for Mark Scheifele........ |

If that guy doesn't develop a mean streak, he's useless.
They're better suited with soft, small, fast d, than soft, large, slow ones..

The Habs certainly have plenty of D talent in the pipeline, and none would be exempted from trade.....clearly for some the offer will need to be greater than for others, but any could be had for the right offer. Time to see what the other clubs are willing to part with.... |

Let's say Toronto wants to get rid of Marner, anyone here are takers? And what would the offer be?
I'd go for it, conditional to an extension (sign and trade, basically). Of course, Marner would have to go for it too, which I've got a feeling he won't.
As for offer, a young D (not sure Harris or Struble would be who Toronto would target, but I'd start with those or both), a first round, probably Habs this year and next (not 1st OA this year and not top 5 next year) and something else, just don't really know what the something else would be. |

No thanks.
Decent player, not worth 11M+ per year to screw your cap.

well his 10.9M per year contract ends next season, if he signed his next one closer to 8M per year to fit the habs' salary structure, would you be more interested? |

of course he wants that, but maybe he also would like to win and be part of a more balanced team lol.
anyway we can talk about it all we want but the odds of such a thing happening are very low imho, not only because blockbuster trades between MTL and TOR aren't very common but also because he'd probably prefer playing in a quieter market after being part of that sh!tshow lol. |

who knows, he might sign a last contract there before retiring, because apparently the league is dumb enough to consider going back and trying again in the desert at some point.

Actually, we're most likely gonna pick 26-27th unless a whole lotta things go the right way.

We might have to trade a player like Mailloux to get that top offensive player.
Keep Hutson
Trade Harris, Barron
Struble could be the 8th D.
I still think we need another vet for the bottom pair with a mean streak |

Of course we have enough.
But the guys the Leafs would want are not the guys the Habs would be willing to give up for the Leafs.
So it won't happen.

Also, Mitchy ain't waiving his nmc unless an extension is attached. And he will want Top 5 player money |

odd request when you aren't even in the top 10 in terms of offensive production. |
