but I get why flyers fans might hope that the team trades up in the draft, I heard Brière during a podcast say that he wasn't 100% sure that Matvei Michkov would come to North-America and play for Philly, apparently they've barely been in contact with him since the draft. - Pat1993
dude. michkov just terminated his contract and is coming over next season. its being reported all over the place.

well Brière was on that podcast 3 days ago...
and I just checked, he's expected to terminate his contract but that's according to a russian media outlet, wouldn't be the first time something was lost in translation there and was turned into bullpoop lol.
but I'm glad for the flyers if that's the case, it also relatively makes things more promising for other russian players who could be drafted.

If Briere says they've been talking he can be accused of tampering
With all the poop that just happened with fedotov, philly, ska and the iihf you don't think they'd be ultra scrutinized? - mr.peanut
do you mean the Russian federation being fined for a breach of transfer regulations..?
while I can understand this would piss off the russians I doubt this would push them to scrutinize the situation even more, as they probably already have their eyes on it and on other Russian players currently involved with North American teams.

That’s not entirely true and more of a clickbait story. Technically no NHL team can be in contact with a player signed in the KHL, but there are back channels, agents, scouts etc. So, when Briere is asked that question that’s all he can really say. According to rumors this morning, Michkov and his agent are working out a buyout to get him over as soon as this season.

I get what you're saying but this was directly reported by Brière, I'm not quite sure why he'd lie about not being in contact with the player... they do talk to Michkov but very rarely apparently.

Because he technically isn’t allowed to do so. The Flyers did basically the same thing with Fedotov. He was in Philadelphia and Briere said they hadn’t spoken to him, then a few days later he’s signed.

the way Brière explained it is that the flyers can't ask from Michkov's current team to get in touch with him on a regular basis, and to be informed of his development, how he's being utilized, etc.
I mean, unless the Russians lock up Michkov in a cell and confiscate his phone and any means of communication he could use, they can't really prevent him 100% from talking to someone else.

I’m not saying there’s no physical possibility for them to talk to him. I’m saying publicly they can’t acknowledge speaking to him. It’s stupid but that’s the way it is.

it's not what Brière was saying, he even mentioned that Michkov sent pics of himself wearing a flyers jersey lol
