but there are barely any "bridge deals" being done in the NHL today, now teams are locking young players early, and with the salary cap going up it isn't a bad strategy, as long as you're banking on actual talent. I think they've done that with the Slaf deal as well, and see this as great asset/cap management.

The Sens did one good thing, which was locking their core young guys to long term deals that are under 9 mil. Hughes doing it is also smart. If it's a fail, oh well, but the gamble is worth it from what has been shown.

yeah, in terms of risk management I think there are better chances these deals fall between "good" and "great" rather than becoming a cap burden along the way.
