This is worse than when my work got new floors in 2020 then they immediately put the arrows on them, which everyone ignored (there are residue stains now)

I bought my son Basketball shoes to stop the velcro nonsense.

It took him forever to lace them up at first but he's gotten very good at it now.

No going back to kiddy shoes.

My nephew (7) went from velcro...always proudly saying he didn't need help to slip ons

I usually tell them that their laces will drag in pee, then when they start tying them I say "ew you have pee fingers" (I am the adult in this situation fyi)
