You can also “down-tune” regular instruments as long as they’re set up properly. You couldn’t play a song like Limo Wreck by just taking your standard tuned guitar and just simply loosening the strings. They’d be falling off the neck.

But bands like that were trying to be the opposite of what was metal and hair metal at the time. Grunge was for players to be unpolished, no real soloing, very few harmonies. It was stripped down and giving the finger to the norm.

And they were a six-string rock/grunge band. Probably a comfort thing, and seeing as they came up during the late 80’s……there weren’t many bangs using 7 strings. Was probably at the “this will never take off” phase.

i think the tuning and the time sigs were what made them different but i only know that from reading. i can't really tell what i'm hearing because i don't play.

Yeah, for sure! What a great band! They were different because they had 2 amazing song writers in Kim and Chris. And there was no way that Kim was gonna put down that slick Gibson SG for a 7-string!! Lol

Yeah, I’ve seen that!! Very nice.

My next 6 string is going to have 27 frets instead of the regular 22-24 frets. Thats another way of extending the range of the guitar.

Uli John Roth started that when he played for the Scorpions in the early 70’s.

i wouldn't be able to afford that even if i could play. but i could afford this one and i do kind of love it.

kim does play a gibson too. it's a firebird, which i've always kind of loved the shape of.

i would be a waste of your time. i just can't get limbs to work independently.

i love sitting at a drum kit too and i can eventually bang out what will sound like a very weak fill to the extremely untrained ear, but i can not get my foot to work the bass drum at the same time as i'm hitting the other drums.

It’s an unreal color! It’s called Aqua Marine and it is 6 ply shells. 2-ply birch, then 2-ply maple, and 2-ply birch again. With shallow toms and 2 floor toms and 11 symbols. Sounds unreal!!

I’ll try and figure out the picture posting poop here. Would love for you to see all of this since you appreciate it all

i think musical instruments are beautiful. i just love having the guitars around. it's better than an end table being there or something. even if you don't actually know how to play, they're fun to pick up and mess around with. you just make little patterns of sounds because it's all you know how to do but it's fun!
