I tell you that's why Winnipeg is always relevant, they always find someone to give something up for a disgruntled player. - BetweenTheDots

They do seem to be able to get something of value for disgruntled players (although I'd say Laine for Dubois was a notable downgrade and they ultimately needed to trade Dubois as well).
I think we can argue a bit about their relevance. Since their return in 2011 (13 seasons), they've missed the playoffs 6 times and had first round losses 5 more. They've made it to the Conference finals once. Four second place finishes in their division and one 3rd in that span.
I think the bigger question is why do they keep having disgruntled players? - Chunk
According to McGrumpy supposedly he got minimal feed back from the Peg front office of his role and time line?
I believe they are old school in the way they treat players.

Porter Martone or the Swede Anton Frondell look like nice options at #2, but they will either have to drop in the rankings, or the Hawks will have to have a god awful year to get either one, or win the 2nd place lottery. Maybe good sized forwards Roger McQueen or Malcomb Spence will be around at 7 through 10. Or the Hawks win the #1 lottery and take James Hagens. |

I don't think we will be much better because we still have very limited talent.

Good time to figure out who will be worse than Chicago.
Playoff teams West (95+ points) - EDM, VAN, LA, COL, DAL, NSH
Bubble teams West (90+ points) - VGK, WPG, STL,
Non Playoff, but middling (70-80+ points) - UTAH, MIN, SEA (I'll include CHI here too, but don't see them finishing ahead of these three.)
Playoff teams East (95+ points) - TOR, BOS, FLA, TB, CAR, NYR, NJ
Bubble teams East (90 + points) - DET, OTT, WSH
Non playoff, but middling (70-80+ points) - PIT, PHI, BUF, NYI, MON
That leaves San Jose, Anaheim, Columbus, and Calgary at the bottom. Maybe a couple of the middling teams above like PIT or PHI really fall off. Hawks still in the bottom 7-8 or so. |

Getting to 82 standings points would be about all we could expect. That would be 11th from the bottom using last year's standings.
A pick there might end up being Desnoyers. Wiz has Moore at #11, so some good centers should be available.

It's interesting to look at those standings. Considering the attrition, EDM is pretty much a McDavid injury from being a bubble team. I'm probably overstating that, but I don't think it's far off. I also think that VGK is going to crash this year. They've lost a ton of their identity guys and depth. Demko doesn't look like he'll be ready to start the year, so Van may struggle a little as well.
The Hawks will likely struggle to advance far beyond about 5th from the bottom, but I don't think it's out of the question. |

But KD could´ve not guaranteed him a NHL roster spot. It´s believed that was the main issue with him in Winnipeg.

What does McGroaty bring that Boisvert will not bring in say three years, just curios as I’m not as well versed on prospects like you and others here. I do know that they both bring size. |

I don't think that these players expect a NHL spot. I think they expect a tryout at the NHL level and to sign their contract and start burning entry level years. It sounds like the Jets were going to sign him then stick him in the AHL because "thats what you do". He probably also wanted to burn his first year like some of his peers did this spring.
It's not the first player to complain about that organization and that is atypical from a hockey culture perspective.
Some of these organizations will need to adjust how they operate. With the skill level and physical maturity of a lot of these players - the preconceived timeline isn't what it was 10 or 20 years ago. If they gave him 3 games at the end of this past year and then had him start in the AHL this year everyone is probably happy.
But even with the Crosby or Malkin factor - if the kid scores 15 goals and 35 points in the NHL this year it's going to make the Jets look pretty silly. |

A year a head interns of development.
Boisvert has a bigger frame. Natural center. Intense, competitive (though McGroaty seems to have those too), has trained as a boxer and that is a very cerebral sport.
Will get a better idea after he plays in college a year. It's a dart on a kit that'll probably be a productive middle 6 player.
Do you want the kid who has already played for a solid college program but is disgruntled with the org he's in or do you want more of a blank slate where you can influence his development at North Dakota and go from there?
The Jets did a good to get a very good prospect out of Pittsburg who are obviously on a time table. I think that will end up being a win win deal for both clubs. |

Thanks. I’m not sure which one is a better skater or which one will have a better NHL career, but all things being equal, I’ll take the center over a forward. |

Imo Hawks finish 65 to 70 point range improve of 13 to 18 points most likely getting 5 through 8 range in the draft. |

They’ll be better, the question is how much better. They have legitimate NHL forwards on their top six, albeit not elite, and more experience on the backend from Vlasic and KK. In my opinion they’ll draft top ten, so should get another quality prospect. |

I would hope that if they wind up closer to tenth slot than first couple slots in round one, that they could move up just enough to draft a quality tier I forward.
That being said, there was an interesting somewhat complicated trade today between the Sharks and Nashville. I recognized some quality prospects going both to Nashville and to San Jose. A conditional first round pick was part of the package. I am curious who got the best of this trade - maybe both teams did well? Look for the trade to be digested by critics then let us see the appraisal.
I know this much: SJ Sharks have now two top centers and a top goaltender. That is how you build out. Center, defense, goaltending if it falls into place with your own draft or a trade….but really like dmen before goaltenders. I always cite how the old Red Wings won a Cup with Osgood in net
Anyway, Blackhawks have a decision to make Keep in mind they should not disenfranchise their star Bedard. There are some attractive pretty good forwards in the “farm system” but perhaps insofar as to acquire a top line quality forward in the ‘25 draft (a tier I prospect), they MIGHT go against best player available and draft said forward prospect
Interestingly enough the Penguins traded away a center prospect for a sooner NHL ready forward. So that may help Crosby and Malkin lead the Penguins to respectability in the short term yet exchanging first round picks may mean the Penguins draft a lower tier prospect in round one. Definitely a purpose for Penguins, or a strategical move. It may bite them but if both Yager and McGroaty prove to be descent players, then the trade is not so much bad for the Penguins |
