What does McGroaty bring that Boisvert will not bring in say three years, just curios as I’m not as well versed on prospects like you and others here. I do know that they both bring size. - Angotti
McGroarty is a blueblood, especially compared to Boisvert. Came outa The Program, four WJCs, U of MI and has success at every stop including a pt per game as a true NCAA freshman and 52 in 36 his draft +1 yr. At 6ft 1in 205 lbs he plays a coveted power game.
Boisvert isn't nearly as developed, obviously as one is 20 one is 18, and plays center...... Hawks took him more on traits than production so far, although Boisvert scored pretty big this yr in the USHL.
Not saying the Hawks should or shouldn't trade for McGroarty but if a guy like him is on the market I want my organIzation to take a real hard look at it, every time no matter what era they're in.

Yeah I dunno about these deals. I think you pay the guy for what they've done not trying to be too smart about it.
Other than MacKinnon and I guess ze German in Edmonton - how many times does this actually pay off?
Bedard is on a little bit of a different scale since there is best player in the league potential. - fattybeef
Pretty much every contract Carolina signs players to, no? IIRC all those Dmen, along with Svech and Aho too... All signed for term before they popped, no?....... Only one I remember them missing on is Kotkieniemi and that was done on pure emotion to screw MTL.
This is something we have yet to learn about KD. Will he try to emulate CAR in signing young not quite proven NHL talent to term for less? He did this with Vlasic and the contract looks good already, but there is risk.
So many things have to go right to win a cup and if you can have your fair share of value contracts cuz you signed a Vlasic or Svechnikov type to term early you open up a lot more possibilities in building a roster. ........ Just don't miss on who you sign early for term.

San Jose signs Askarov to a 2 year x 2M contract extension, effective next season.
With the Vegas 1st round pick acquired in the trade, NSH now has three 2025 1st rounders, their own, TB's and VGK's. All of them likely will be in the late teens or 20's. I can see them being buyers at the deadline. If Hall is healthy and having a good year can he be had for one of those 1sts? |

I know this is neither here nor there but... the word is spelled decent. It is kind of an OCD thing with me when I see a word, the same word, constantly misspelled. I apologize in advance. Don't mean to be critical of anyone and I know this isn't English class. I will try to do better. Sorry for the outburst. |

Funny how decent - meaning average,or good enough is pronounced differently than descent - and the only difference is the letter S.
Anyone think SJ is now ahead of the Blackhawks as far as rebuild goes?
Saw a tweet of someone trying to compare their fwd/d prospects to the Blackhawks.
Bedard I assume trumps all of their fwd prospects, but is Will Smith better than all of the Blackhawks prospects?
D!ck!nson better than ArtParty? |

You know, I think that before there's a jury verdict on Josh MacNevin, you gotta think that he fits the role because he comes from the strong Providence college defensive hockey system, and the fact that he played defense there four years tells us he understands that end of the assistant coach of defensemen job. He did it for four years for the WHL Kelowna Rockets (and Lethbridge prior). I guess questions will remain can this “young” Josh MacNevin (47) communicate and teach the defensive position from the bench. Sure they could try to find some married family man about his age or younger and ask him to uproot his family for him minor pro assistant coaching job. MacNevin is only a dozen years retired from pro hockey after playing in Sweden for an extensive time. Kyle & staff could've found some ex-former NHL defenseman who filled out a pro roster as a lesser light and you hand him the grooming job for a young Blackhawk draftees. Just outta nhl competition, he tries probably feels his usefulness is more related to that, to do like he still a player coming off like a living lesson, and less of a strategist, and I want the young prospects see the staff as there for the team, not the kids are there to idolize an old pro.
You'll agree with me that you're looking to bring somebody in who can ensure better production at both ends of the ice from the defense prospects they bring to Rockford, and where MacNevin coached prior is less important than how he teaches the position of defense, especially in this era where the attacking teams cause new problems for the defensive position.
Steve from Glencoe? - wiz1901
This coach never sniffed the NHL and played his pro career in Europe on the larger ice surface. I like that he assistant coached 7 years in the WHL, that is dedication for sure. I think Calen Addison is one of the few that he has coached that made it to the NHL. I was hoping for a major upgrade behind the bench in Rockford but this administration prefers first-timers at all positions. |

Possibly 3 first rounders. Just don't see SJ being any good this year.
I'm guessing the condition is top 10 protected. |

Thanks Rico, hoping that Boisvert turns into a decent middle six center, and if he blossoms into a good 2nd line center, even better. |

San Jose had two 1st rounders prior to the deal. They are sending the Vegas pick, which they own, top 10 protected, to Nashville in the Askarov trade. If both the Vegas pick and San Jose's 1st are in the bottom 10, San Jose chooses which one goes to Nashville. Vegas may regress this year, but I think they will be in the playoffs, so more than likely that pick will belong to the Predators.

Of course it depends on Hall's health and the year he's having. If he has 20 goals at the TDL and a contender wants a veteran, playoff experienced goal scoring wing at $3M, what's his value?
Edit - The more I think about it, a 1st for Hall may be a stretch. Tarasenko was traded last TDL for a couple of 3rds, Toffoli for a 2nd and 3rd, and Mantha for a 2nd and 4th. But EDM did pay a 1st for Adam Henrique. |

That would be nice to get another 1st round pick or budding prospect.
When i have a chance to day dream i get encouraged to see the future blue line
Arty and Vlasic
Jones and KK
Rinzel/Kaiser/EDM/Allan
Makes a lot of sense drafting Arty if he's that good.
And all those forwards in the pipe line. We win either way this season if they play well we get to witness more wins this season and most likely pick in the top 10 or if they don't we get to draft in the top 5.
The guy i follow on Twitter, Byron Bader shows stuff like how many stars you need on your team to win a cup and most of those stars seem to come from top 5 picks. He has the Blackhawks ranked 2nd through his formula but our top 5, Bedard, Arty, Korchinski, Reichel and Moore. He said this is the best rated top 5 in the NHL. His formula shows Anaheim having overall more talent in the system then the Blackhawks and their top 5 isn't to bad either. |

I'm watching and hoping, and he has yrs to do it, KD can pounce on a disgruntled prospect like a McGroarty or Gauthier. Really helpful if a franchise can add a top 6 or 1st/2nd pairing guy in a value deal.
An add like that along with a Euro FA find, a 5th rounder that hits big, maybe a change of scenery player that pops and you're going a long way to buttressing a core of top 10 picks.
And I think Boisvert has plenty of traits to be an NHLer at least and maybe a + player. A nice floor of size, solid skating, plays center with a fine shot. Nice foundation to coach up and build upon. |

Hall + 2026 3rd for 2026 1st?
I think Stan may put in a call at the deadline for Murphy or Martinez. Could get the 2025 STL 2nd for one of them. Maybe a bit more for Murphy if he is healthy.

Right on, Totem.... A guy like Hall playing well probably won't bring back a 1st rounder, although it might depending on supply and demand at that particular time, but 2nd rd picks along with a 1st will move you up in the 1st rd, which KD has shown he will. Nice to have a few 2nd round picks stashed away.
I'm hoping the Hawks are playing well enough, not playoff level, that there is at least a discussion in the organIzation of not subtracting from a team that is playing well.

Yeah Totem, a package deal would work to increase the return value. KD likes those1st rounders and so do I. Something similar to the McCabe/Lafferty package which yielded a 1st and 2nd. Hall and Martinez combined for a 1st or a decent prospect and lower pick? Hawks likely would have to use their last 2 retention spots in that type of deal.

I'm hoping for an improved year Rico, but I believe the playoffs are a stretch. Come February and March, if out of contention, I think KD will see the opportunity for one last asset grab. Three of Hall, Martinez, AA, Donato, Smith or Maroon could be moved. The return will depend on supply and demand and whether an arms race gets started around the league. Hopefully come out the TDL with at least a 2nd, a lower round pick, and a decent prospect(s).
