I have to disagree with you Yorkie.
The return of a 4th rounder in helping a division rival out of cap hell so they can resign offer sheeted players, or just gain cap space for future deals, is not worth it at all. IMO, the possible upsides of picking a player in the 4th round and the chances of him making any impact are not worth,
1) The help you just gave the Oilers.
2) The possible, all be it small chance, that Podz gets it together and develops into something that smears egg on your face as a GM. If he didn't clear waivers and got picked up by 30 other teams, way less pressure on Alvin then Podz becoming a player riding McDrai's coattail.
3) Probably would have been picked up by SJ on waivers, so no biggy as he fades into obscurity.
4) If you need a pick, take anything else from a non rival. a 5th from OTT is better than a 4th from EDM, optics wise and close in actual positions as well.
5) Or, might have just cleared waivers and made it to Abby.
A 4th rounder from the Oilers is not worth lighting a fuse on a possible optics poopbomb to go off in the future.

Explain how they helped Edmonton out of a cap jam? Nonsense |

In one way yes, in another no.
It gave them options.
Replace Holloway with Podz. they save 1.3 Mil, and resign Broberg.
After the Ceci deal, the Oilers have room to wiggle now.
It was a poor move all around. Not worth a 4th - carsonagenic

Because he's always had the physical tools, a good attitude, and team mentality. He could just never put it together to be the type of player the team needed him to be. - NorthNuck

Thx Yorkie
Podz was a tweener who couldn’t carve a niche. Mid 6 3rd wheel who became a cast off. Inconsistency his biggest issue. The years going by was passed by others & UFA’s. His upside was never there to begin with & he didn’t raise his game. Move on & take the low pick & roster spot. |

He'll pace for 60 goals for a month or 2 and then fall off the map again |

The Canadiens have traded defenseman Jordan Harris to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Patrik Laine and a second-round pick in 2026

Whoa high risk high reward. Habs making some savvy deals given their high end prospect pool. Taking in that cap hit made it pretty low risk against competition. |

Could be a steal if Laine can find his game again.
Habs should flip that 2nd for Yarsoslav Askarov from Nashville and they’d be sitting pretty. |

Always a chance, but extremely unlikely. And rebound to what? A slightly less sh!tty player? Edmonton is a good team that can’t afford to give this guy many opportunities. I imagine he hits waivers before Christmas |

It seems like VAN has taken pride in their development team under JR/PA. I'm sure the twins, RT and others have countless hours with Podskolzin over the years. The bottom line was he simply wasn't a good enough player to make the team. |
