Hasn’t changed? We just added a 40 goals scorer for a 2nd and we got rid of a bottom pairing soft D - WaterBoy
he used to be a 40 goals scorer.
There's a reason why they got Laine + a 2nd round pick for Harris |

Multiple reasons. One of them being he wanted out of a poophole city and a terrible team and organisation.
He’s a star that needs to play « sous les projecteurs » to be a star. Quite sure the team made due diligence on his personal issues. He’s a gamer and he’ll be one hell of a gamer on this team. |

PLD wanted out of those two cities as well and was frequently used as the reason in here why Montreal shouldn't trade for him |

tempère tes attentes un peu et vois ça comme un paris qui n'a pas coûté grand chose. J'ai eu Laine dans un pool, je sais ce que c'est. En santé il fesait un point par match environ. Mais il ratait les deux tiers de la saison. |

It hasn't changed in the sense that we need our key players to stay healthy.
If both Laine and Dach play 82 games, the possibility for the team's success have greatly improved, no doubt about that.

We got Kovalev for a 2nd round pick and Josef Balej back in the day. Guy went from underwhelming star player to fan favorite #1 forward on the Habs.
Some players enjoy the spotlight, maybe Laine is one of them.

I like the trade because of the cost but some fans will need to come back to earth. Then again, its Montreal, it is to be expected.
If it doesn't work out his deal is over in 2 years and demidov will be here by then. |

Kovalev had no spotlight in NY?
I like the trade, again. But it is what it is. The guy is very injury prone. |

Cap hit.
If he is like a 25 goal / 60ish point player and plays 70+ games, then this is a win for the Habs.

He did, but he was sharing it with a pletora of other stars that were also underperforming.
In Montreal, he was THE star. And he enjoyed every moment of it.

They did get him on the cheap.
And yes, like with all the other players one the league, they need to remain healthy.
I’m seeing a poor season from him with 30+ goals and 60 points and 60 games played. |

Again, I like the trade, I just have low expectations for him at this point. But because of the cost, you do that trade every time you can. Habs had the cap space, the depth on LHD + they also get a 2nd round pick because BJ dont retain salary. |

That's fair. I think the truth is probably between the overhype "we just got our best goal scorer since Stéphane Richer" and "The man hasn't been good since 2018, he's full of problem and he's the reason people get cancer".
As you said, the cost made sense, the risk makes sense and the potential reward was well worth it.

Regardless of if he puts up the points or not, he’s legit the most talented forward in the lineup.
Suzuki is a hard worker but doesn’t have that high end talent.
Caufield can score but doesn’t have lots of what Laine has…mostly size enables the rest.
Slaf? Love the kid. Don’t know how high his ceiling is no if he could be in the same category as Laine.
Should be a fun season and overall we should just be happy to fill a void with a kid like that harris |

do you think they could trade yet another defenseman before or during camp or thats it for now? Already traded Kovacevic and Harris. |

Kovacevic and Harris departing gave them some room to experiment without committing to any of the rookies.
If I am the Habs, I rotate the 3 kids in for trials of various games during the season, see their progress in Laval and then assess. If they are as good / ready as some people believe, then I expect the Habs will make room for them.
