Flyers will use the cap space if/when the money officially comes off.

But they have to keep the space available until everything is officially resolved.

- StepfordSam

Sounds like the real issue is they have a move they want to make using RyJo's money. Heaven forbid they save that cap space if it were available.

That's what his agent said now. Why wasn't that said back in March when the Flyers acquired him? Trying to talk through it to figure out what is going on. Doesn't add up.

Then again it could be something off ice. We’ll see.

You do due diligence so that there are no surprises. 99% of the time nothing turns up, you do it for the 1%. Nobody questioned the Flyers ability to put a healthy player on waivers.

Maybe the Flyers pulled a Gold Standard trade and there's nothing they could've done differently but finding out about an injury post trade and to have your doctors verify it is a bad look, period. Not caring about said injury when they found out makes them look indifferent to the injury. They could've dealt with it at the time and voided the trade.

That's what makes this "material breach" so interesting. It feels like they are trying to have their cake and eat it to. Their choices were to void the trade and lose the pick or keep the player and keep the pick. They are now trying door #3. Keep the pick and lose the player.

- Flyers_01

If they're successful in opening door#3, it will be some fine work by the Flyers. Get the 1st and then get the player off the cap. If they don't and they lose, well it's fodder for more criticism.

Another thing. Players play with and through injuries all the time. His agent says it's a serious injury.

I am impressed and shocked that you are not automatically using this situation to bash the Flyers and how they mishandle everything. Thank you for giving them a chance. A lot of good points have been made, so let's hope the Flyers get this one right. Now if they don't...

He probably repeatedly disobeyed doctors orders.

You say you have an injury? OK. We've coordatined rehab sessions for you to attend.

He probably no-showed a few times. Then was discovered golfing and waterskiing this summer. Get lost then. We're not paying you.

Flyers arent winning this. Flyers doctors confirmed at the time of the trade that he had an injury and surgery is scheduled. No one undergoes surgery if they are healthy. It's a hail mary and another bad look, in a series of bad looks recently, for this organization. You knowingly trade for an injured player to get a 1st rd pick you pay the price

Agreed,

He played in a game right before the trade and attended a practice before the trade.
He gets traded and is immediately sent to the AHL.
He then mentions that he has injury, the Flyers say it can be rehabbed.
Now it needs surgery!

We are a month and a half or so out before the season starts, when is this surgery scheduled for?

He wants all of his money now because he knows his chances of getting a big pay check are over.

The Flyers confirmed that he had an injury that can be rehabbed and did not need surgery for.

When did the severity of the injury occur that it needed surgery?
Were the Flyers informed it needed surgery?
When is it scheduled for?
Is it a season ending surgery, what is the timeline of RYJO getting back on the ice?

You think its just coincidence there is a problem with another Overhardt client? I don't. I think there is a fued between the Flyers and Overhardt, each seem to be out to get the other. It makes no sense since I think it hurts both parties. Still I hope the Flyers win this one. I have been posting from the beginning RJ is faking it because he did not want to be sent down to the Phantoms, and apparently now the Flyers have proof. Overhardt is a scumbag if he thinks he can prove in any way Johansen has a career threatening after he played in every game for Colorado before the trade.

This guy has always been a turd in the punch bowl of life and you just know he is lying, but now the Flyers have to prove it! The are due some good luck. Say what you want about Torts, but he sure seems to know how to weed out the turds in the room.

Actually getting out from some or all of RJs cap hit will save the Flyers from making a move. They can remain patient and wait for the right offer to come along. It puts the Flyers in more a position of strength than weakness when it comes to making trades because they will not be up against the cap. They might even be able to take on some money for an additional asset this year.

So why didn’t he get the surgery, there is clearly something fishy about this.

I dunno. I know Flyers are within their rights and all if they have proof but is this really necessary? They couldn’t just ride it out a year? What do they need the cap space for? It can’t be a locker room cancer, he was never gonna set foot in the locker room. When it comes to cap space they are worse than a smack addict.

This better be a slam dunk for the Flyers or it’s going to look really bad.

SCHEDULED surgery. It has not happened yet but if the agent is telling the truth then I don't see how the Flyers win this, if the injury itself is the cause of the "material breach".

Current speculation is that video of him celebrating his wedding might be the basis of the breach but nobody knows.

It’s not like he’s making Pennie’s man, he’s got a sizable contract. If they are doing some shady crap you can’t blame the flyers for this

It's not about a feud with the agent. According to the agent, Johansson is scheduled for surgery. You don't have surgery for a fake injury.

I think it's vindictive but as you say, they are within their rights. They bend over backwards for vets they like, example Atkinson, but Overhaldt has recent bad history with the Flyers and RyJo/Torts have history.

Regarding the cap, meet the new boss same as the old boss.

If the agent is telling the truth?

My guess is they settle for a $2M buyout.

Only that it is serious, and has been scheduled...Almost SIX months after the trade.

The agent put his statement on the twitters and is getting roasted in the responses.

Maybe this is the heart of the dispute, the Flyers disagree with the diagnosis and the need for major surgery. I think its been clear from the very beginning, reading into Briere's comments about the subject, that the Flyers believe he is faking the injury and can play but does not want to.
