Philadelphia acquired Johansen from the Avalanche before the trade deadline but immediately waived him in an attempt to send him to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and potentially offload him before the deadline passed. Days later, however, the league reversed Johansen’s AHL assignment after he failed his physical following the trade due to a hip injury.
The injury also prevented Johansen from being bought out by the Flyers in June.
This was a closely watched trade from the beginning and has already been before the league one time already. The Flyers wanted the draft pick more than they wanted to not pay the player.
If the Flyers thought they had a case earlier, they would've brought it up before the end of the buyout period in June. Something changed. There's no upside to them waiting this long to file. - Flyers_01
I would think that whatever evidence they're using to try and terminate, didn't come to them until later as you said. Something changed.
The Flyers are only on the hook for 4M for Johansson I believe. Whether it is negative depends on one's point of view. I see the Flyers having cap space as a negative. - MJL
Yeah. I get your point. I see them clearing space as a positive with the hopes they weaponize it.. taking on bad contracts for picks and prospects etc.
The Flyers spend cap space like a junkie needing a fix. - MJL
Like you don't want them to have any cap space. Look at the the deal the Habs just made because they HAD CAP SPACE. They picked up a possible 30-40 goal scorer and a second round pick for a nobody defenseman. Cap space is valuable and can be used as a weapon. I guess maybe your point is that they don't know what to do with cap space? AmIrite? Taylor Swift says "Hi"!

Exactly the kind of deal I don't want them to make. Thanks

I believe the Flyers view that part of their process as over.
Everyone has a phone these days which can take instant videos. Perhaps he was caught doing things that injured folks aren't supposed to be doing unaware that he was being filmed. This would be guess if I had to make a guess. - Phillywhiteout
Very possible but generally those types of videos work against permanent disability claims or injuries which don't require surgery. To me, and i'm not a lawyer, the scheduled surgery would trump that and it's possible that whatever is on this theoretical video may look more damning than it medically is.
Hell Ellis is out playing golf and he's never playing in the NHL again. Maybe he invited RyJo out for a few rounds?

As I'm sure you know, being injured doesn't mean you have to be wrapped up in bubble wrap and not leave the house. Maybe they caught him dancing at his wedding!

The speculation is going to be highly entertaining until the real reason is made public.
It's like watching a game of Jeopardy. We asked 100 people what the top 5 reasons are for Ryan Johansen to be terminated. Hockeybuzz family, I need an answer ....
You think its just coincidence there is a problem with another Overhardt client? I don't. I think there is a fued between the Flyers and Overhardt, each seem to be out to get the other. It makes no sense since I think it hurts both parties. Still I hope the Flyers win this one. I have been posting from the beginning RJ is faking it because he did not want to be sent down to the Phantoms, and apparently now the Flyers have proof. Overhardt is a scumbag if he thinks he can prove in any way Johansen has a career threatening after he played in every game for Colorado before the trade. - jd250
What does he gain by faking an injury...he ruins his chance of being traded to a contender and maybe his career. He gets paid one way or the other this year whether its with Flyers..Phantoms or a buyout...

Yeah.. I don't know enough info to figure this out yet. Just hope the Flyers get some cap space out of it.

Ha ha, that was one of the rumors. They used to play in Nashville together, so perhaps they were on the course together. Can't imagine that would be enough evidence for the termination though.
Maybe this is the heart of the dispute, the Flyers disagree with the diagnosis and the need for major surgery. I think its been clear from the very beginning, reading into Briere's comments about the subject, that the Flyers believe he is faking the injury and can play but does not want to. - jd250
Didn’t Briere say a while back he will likely never play again?

This is what Ek is reporting. That at his wedding he was doing things that a person with a serious hip injury shouldn't be able to do. Whatever that means.

1) He gets spared the embarrassment of playing in the AHL.
2) He gets to sit on LTIR and take his full paycheck, instead of just 2/3.

Apparently there's a wedding video showing that he picked up his bride off her feet... which would be pretty low to hold against him even if it's a smoking gun.
All I can say is I told you all so. Jett will have a monster +1 year at Gaulf and will make the Flyers next season. And then when that happens many on here ripping the Flyers now, will say "Buium who?"

Probably right..other article said they have video of his celebrating and dancing at a wedding. There are lots of injuries though where you can dance..play golf etc but cant play hockey on a daily basis
