All I can say is I told you all so. Jett will have a monster +1 year at Gaulf and will make the Flyers next season. And then when that happens many on here ripping the Flyers now, will say "Buium who?" - jd250
Maybe wait until after he's had that monster year before taking your victory lap?
1) He gets spared the embarrassment of playing in the AHL.
2) He gets to sit on LTIR and take his full paycheck, instead of just 2/3. - Tomahawk
If he had no injury and allowed the Flyers to buy him out at 2/3rds he would have gotten a contract , likely with a contender, and would be playing in the NHL this year

His current contract pays him $8M in pure salary, a BO would eat almost $2.7M. He's not getting $2.7M deal from a bottom feeder, much less a contender. And you're assuming he even cares about winning. Guy may just be trying to maximize his career earnings and is cool with just hangin' em up.
"He claimed to be injured when we traded for him, so we had him see the doctors," Briere said. "They found an injury, so now he's going to be rehabbing. You can't send down a player who's injured, so he's going to be doing rehab until ... we don't know when. That's about all I can say at this time, or all that I have. So, he's back on our roster doing rehab and trying to get better."
Unless they are going to sue their doctors for malpractice this sounds like an uphill battle. Also the fact they didn't contest the trade when they discovered the injury might work against them. They never cared about the player or his status and they only do now because they can't buy him out.
Anyway, if he contests it should be entertaining. - Flyers_01
I hope he does.
I don't care what the Flyers "heard" about him. Johansson made a reasonable offer when traded to Philly. He was willing to play for them and work through his issues with Torts. The Flyers said no based on the word of another organization. Johansson has a long NHL career, you don't trade for a player to blackball that player. Fake an injury to stay out of the minors. (frank) em!

Do you have any sense at all? It will be years before that is settled.

Probably right..other article said they have video of his celebrating and dancing at a wedding. There are lots of injuries though where you can dance..play golf etc but cant play hockey on a daily basis - hfc355
I would have to imagine it is more than just that. It's a pretty thin case if not.
SCHEDULED surgery. It has not happened yet but if the agent is telling the truth then I don't see how the Flyers win this, if the injury itself is the cause of the "material breach".
Current speculation is that video of him celebrating his wedding might be the basis of the breach but nobody knows. - Flyers_01
Purposely waiting to have surgery so you do not have to play the season or you wanted to wait for your wedding could be grounds I suppose. Flyers got a 1st for Walker and this dude was the baggage. It was a good trade either way. Why not try the breach and see if you can get the money off the books. Seems like a no brainer.

It will take years to be settled, but the fact that the player is so young was probably not mentioned enough when the Flyers were getting killed for the pick. Almost have to wait until the end of this year and compare that body of work with the other 12 players from last year.

There can be a dispute between the team and the player on how to proceed medically that could delay a surgery. The team has full control of medical decisions. We've seen that with the Eichel situation. I don't see that as grounds for contract termination.

But why not have the surgery in the spring? Why did he wait?

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe this is similar to the Eichel situation where team doctors and RyJo's doctors disagree on what kind of surgery he needs and he's gone ahead and booked the one he thinks he needs himself?

Probably because he doesn’t need surgery. An agent can say what he wants about his player being scheduled for surgery….but until it happens or the team is allowed to weigh in, it’s really just a statement. If he was playing in the NHL, he could play through it. But this type of injury is far too serious for an AHL player.
I will say this, the Flyers have said they will defend what they did if needed which is what is going to happen. So regardless of what anyone thinks of this situation we will know the details fairly quickly.

Ya really. Even when they do poop…and remain quiet, this team still makes the news….and not often in good ways.

Drafts should not be judged until a couple years out. I did find it peculiar that they passed on another Oderhardt client who is in the NCAA. I don’t mind Luchanko, as he plays close to where I live so I do get to follow his progress along with the other two guys in London.
