Flyers made the trade know
ing the player...his history and the injury. They did it to get a draft pick. Flyers were fully aware of the situation and fact they didnt anticipate his response in on them. Guy is a loser and Flers knew it going in. - hfc355
I do not think the Flyers cared about the last 20ish games of last year. They do want to send him down or trade him this year though. His "injury" situation is impeding that option.
I think it is pretty clear that RyJo could play if he wanted to. He did all last season up until the trade. The Flyers are exercising an option that is available to them. No more. No less.

LOL. You're not paying attention. Why do I always have to explain things to you? I just recently stated that if the Flyers are successful in getting out of the Johansen contract, it is a good move by them. I have also replied to a number of posters that at this point in time, I don't see that the Flyers have done anything wrong in the Johansen situation.
Now that we've got that out of the way.
Overhardt works for KO sports. A major sports agency that has well over 100 NHL contracts. Including with current Flyers such as Joel Farabee. His job is to represent his clients, protect their rights and do what their clients ask. There is no evidence that I'm aware of that shows that the Gauthier situation developed due to bad advice given to him by his agent. If his client told him he wants to be traded and play for a new team. He can advise him on that but ultimately, it is his responsibility to represent his client and make it happen. Same with Johansen. It is his job to protect and represent his client.
It is inconceivable moving forward for the Flyers to avoid clients of KO sports. As it is a large company. It would be malpractice on the Flyers part to avoid taking a better player, due to who the agent is. If the Flyers passed on Buium strictly based on who his agent is, that is incompetence on their part. - MJL
I wouldn't say it was strictly due to Overhardt, but I think the recent history with his clients has something to do with it. Also note that Farabee has been in several trade rumors this off-season, any coincidence he is also an Overhardt client? Of course I agree with you that an agent should seek the best interest of this client, but this would not be the first time a team and agent didn't have a good relationship and it impacted the players. |

According to gmdb the team doctors "found" an injury - so we know that he is in fact injured

Flyers made the trade to acquire RYJO for the first round pick this year, The injury was nothing but an excuse to not be sent to the AHL where he would make 1million less. Like I said this player is all about money and nothing else. - Flyerloon
That's not accurate. He is on a one way contract. He would make the same salary in the AHL as he would in the NHL. As another poster pointed out. It could be higher due to not having to pay escrow. |

It can be when its against your rehab or whatever you want to call it. Fact is the whole thing is odd because if he just sucks it up and goes to the minors, he can play a game, "get hurt" and collect his cash, he gets more of it due to no escrow.
This whole thing is not doing him any favours because after this year after his struggles, the rumours about his attitude, it is heavily implied that RyJo is one of the ppl Toews was ranting on during the season and now he's crying injury after playing through whatever injury he has and deciding now he cant play because hes being sent to the minors. This kind of reinforces the bad attitude narrative. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
That would be a one time incident and certainly not worthy of a contract termination. I'm not sure about the escrow situation. I don't think this is about his NHL future for him. It's about getting his money.

Again, it would be incompetence to avoid players based on who the agent is. It's supposed to be adversarial.

Here's what gets me in this whole situation, Ryjo was playing everyday for Colorado but once the trade was made and the Flyers wanted to send him to the ahl his injury popped up and he suddenly couldn't be sent down.
This is nothing but a case of a self entitled player who really has pulled this poop everywhere he has been. Columbus got rid of him because his contract demands compared to his play didn't match up. Then in Nashville they gave him every opportunity to succeed but since he got paid he just coasted around and collected a check. In colorado he was playing 3rd line mins and was almost invisible for most of the year. This player has no internal drive but to make money, he doesnt care about winning or the cup he wants money.

I've also heard that the Avs were not only happy to get out from underneath that contract, but they were happy to get him outta there. Where there is smoke there is fire and this turd's reputation is well earned. I hope the Flyers come out victorious in this dispute!

About the surgery, I agree that if your injured in march or before and need surgery then you get it done in april and start the rehab process to be ready for the season, but RYJO is waiting so he can get the surgery done at the start of the season and be out the whole season then look for a new contract next july.
I hope the FLyers win this, because I hate players like this, just bad for the game. - Flyerloon
One of the first things I've read that makes some sense as a reason why.

I absolutley believe Overhardt had something to do with the Flyers passing on Buium - jd250
so now it isnt because they loved some Jett?
flyers should have just paid the man his money and put him IR. Then move on. At thr end of the day more bad than can come out of this. another bad PR hit. |

What ever happened to it is a cut throat business? It is ok to demote a valued vet on your team instead of doing him a favour and buying him out so he can play elsewhere in the NHL but if a guy who claims he has an injury and is out there doing things he shouldnt be doing then it's low?
Lifting 100+ lbs is def not helping his hip. He hasnt made anything easy on the Flyers either since the trade. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
It's the man's wedding day. Think about it on a human level.
(with that said, I sure hope it's just internet rumors and not what is really happening) |

It is probably more than dancing. I think the Flyers have wanted him out for a while, have been watching him closely waiting for a reason to terminate.
Other side of it is Flyers may simply want to get under the cap without LTIR or they might have a deal in place.
Fact is Flyers seemed fine to let this go in June\July so it seems like something has changed since then.

The team seems confident it will be upheld and they have proof. That being said Ive once seen a company fire an employee on stress leave because he went on a trip, you know, something that would be considered relaxing given the "stress". They clearly thought they were in the right. somehow so who knows

lol I don’t need spin. he got picked. you’re the one desperately grasping at straws here. enjoy that copium.
“Yeah, but…” 😂
If he was as worthless as you and others say he is he’d be one of the other 4 staying home that day.
I’m not even putting that much stock into it but it says a lot that you feel the need to chime in to defend your disdain for the guy. |

LOL, he had a 50% chance of being picked. If he was any good as the senior coach he would be the head coach. You are the one who felt the need to point it out as if it justifies how great you think he is. What it actually justifies is that it would have been a surprise if he wasn't picked considering there wasn't much competition.
