Woof. Newsday saying he had a pump-action shotgun, easy and cheap to obtain around here so unless he was obviously mentally disabled then it wouldn't have been difficult for him to get.

It sure sounds like it. 12 rounds in total, not including himself I believe. 12 rounds likely meant he had to reload at least once and probably twice, unless he had a magazine extension that I think would make the gun illegal in NYS.

I still hate that I watched my parents ring camera footage of it. Even though a tree blocked it you hear him cry and then boom. I’m an idiot

Why are you an idiot?

Why? Ive seen hundreds of them, it is what it is. The pain humans inflict on one another is disgusting and we call ourselves civilized.

Go figure.

Not all but some.

Also it’s different when you know people involved and it happened 24 hours ago. Weird feeling

I mean I’m fine. Just really weird. I’m not a victim of anything. Sucks for my parents though. How do you look at that house every day now

Also affects you different when it's right in front of you versus seeing it on TV/news or video footage.
It is a hard reality and when it happens so close or to you, you question a lot of things, including your own safety.

Not so much that part, just the whole "did he have the means to buy one" part. He'd have to drive relatively far to a state that doesn't have any particularly strict gun show purchasing laws. Maybe PA would be an option, but I'm honestly not sure. He's definitely not getting one easily in NJ/CT/MA.

Not saying it's even close to out of the question that he did buy one himself, I just don't know how feasible it was or wasn't for him. Unless he purchased it between the time his mother passed and the time the incident happened, he'd probably have needed some disposable income to have paid for it. I have no idea if the guy worked or what his financial situation was.

All irrelevant really, absolutely brutal situation all around regardless of the specifics of how he came by the gun.

Why are you assuming it was a RECENT gun purchase? Perhaps he bought the weapon 30+ years ago when he was possibly a bit healthier? Guns are not like cartons of milk, if properly stored they don't go bad. Maybe it was simply in the back of a closet.......

Either way --- terrible tragedy and my condolences to all involved.

So there were 4 siblings, including this guy. Two of the siblings had 1 child (adults now) each. One was in the house. The other one is literally the only person left in that family. He used to come over in the summers when we were really young. (frank)in crazy

I'm not assuming that at all. pickle was talking about him potentially getting it at a gun show and I was only speaking to that. Given his mental state and the fact that he was living with his mom at 60, I was doubting that he bought one at all and think it's more likely there was already one in the house. But who knows.

More info from my mother. It was his father’s gun. The father passed away decades ago. Not sure why they kept it in the house with this guy being unstable but here we are.

Figured as much. You'd think (or hope, anyway) the mother would have been smart enough to either get rid of it or store it away in a locked safe/cabinet.

Stan has hated the Rangers for over 80 years.

I'm glad he hasn't been on TV for a long time. It was a chore watching him.

I’m not touching that debate with a 100 ft pole but it’s easy enough to drive out of state if you really wanted to. Either way it doesn’t matter here. He had one somehow
