well if you're saying it was rigged I guess that means the computer was manipulated by someone in order to get those results..? - Pat1993
The old BCS was weird, it was a computer, a committee and writer polls. It really made no sense.
But I think I should provide some context on the 2011 situation. Alabama and Louisiana State (LSU) both play in the West division of the SEC (there are several conferences in college football). Being in the same division, they played in the regular season with LSU winning. Season happens, a lot of top teams lose. LSU finishes undefeated and wins their conference championship and Alabama finishes with one loss and cannot compete for the conference title (sec East vs sec West).
After all the conference championship games there is a lot of mystery on who will play LSU for the national championship. The BCS releases it's rankings and inexplicably has LSU #1 and Alabama #2. They play in the worst National championship game ever with Alabama winning. NCAA basically throws their hands up and admits the system is too flawed and so they implemented a playoff system to start a few years later.
It's important to note that the computer's formula to rank teams was kept a secret. |

Yes. Last year Florida State went undefeated and won the ACC, however their #1 and 2 QBs got hurt, so the playoffs committee kept them off because they viewed FSU as not one of the best 4 teams with injuries considered.
Also, Georgia went undefeated and lost the sec championship game, so they were left out too (they had a bunch of injuries, but those players would have been ready for the playoffs). And absolutely murdered FSU in the Orange Bowl (5 vs 6).
Both teams had legit beefs, but now it'll be 12 teams in the playoffs |

The big problem is valuing the voter polls. Oh Dale of the Biloxi Times Herald thing ole miss is a number 1 team, well guess what? That will influence their ranking and inflate the records of the teams who beat them |

woah, I was not expecting this level of detail lol. I don't even know what "BCS" actually stands for but this all sounds very odd to me, mainly because transparency regarding the algorithm and the parameters being used shouldn't be an issue, as such things being kept secret can only exacerbate doubt and suspicion, especially when we're talking about sports at a high level. |

it's not a bad-looking can, but I find it concerning because it also reminds me of Pabst beer, which is (frank)ing awful.

Bowl Championship Series. It replaced an even more confusing system to crown a consensus national champion. And even then there were times with co-champions |
