The organization said he wasn’t injured so I’ll trust them on this
- CanuckDon

He wasn't injured, tendinitis isn't an injury. They said they worked with the medical staff and trainers as well as Petey and they all felt like he could work through it and still contribute, that he didn't need to be shutdown.

We worked with the doctors and the trainers and everyone felt like he could keep going,” Tocchet explained at his own press conference a couple of hours later. “So no, we didn’t feel like we had to shut him down.”

So why would he say he was?
- VanHockeyGuy

That’s the question our
Cowardly media should be asking. A little knee tendinitis is a bs excuse for his play

Sounds to me like you are saying that Tocchet, Allvin, team Doctors and trainers really screwed up here. Not discounting the fact that Pouty more than likely had some I put into whether he could perform up to standard.

He's way stronger mentally, Marner has the fortitude of a paper bag.

He was a heartless pussy in the playoffs.

He's on pace to be the highest scoring Canuck ever, and people are calling him a disappointment because of a knee injury
- NorthNuck

Is that the knee injury that was a complete surprise to the entire Canuck organization?

Notice the outlying numbers? in 2021 he had a wrist injury that he was eventually able to heal. I'll let you figure the rest out.

I think they should have rested him after the ASG until he was healthy.

That said, having had it, tendinitis is a really tricky injury to handle properly, so I can somewhat understand him thinking he was good to keep going. The fact remains that the medical professionals and management of the Canucks should have recognized his poor play and addressed it by making him sit for a while in the lead up to playoffs.

Ya, I can agree with this. The whole situation seems a bit fishy. As Marwood said earlier, management seemed surprised to hear that he had something wrong, then Tocchet sounded like he was trying to cover up, when he said something about how they felt it was manageable.

Also, when dealing with arguably a top 50 player in the league, you need to err on the side of caution, especially as the team secured a high finish in the standings.

That's what I was even saying at the time. Their playoff spot was guaranteed, why not rest your under performing star player?

Why wait until then, when you can go see your new favourite team on November 2nd?

Have you ever driven from Phoenix to San Jose? It's a two day drive. Vegas is only 4 hours from here. Plus, the casino's, and stuff.

Good they start on the road away from the Vancouver media. It will make the start times more reasonable for me as well.

Petey will be productive however living up to numbers of that contract will be a challenge. It will be interesting to see who his regular line mates will be.
- ScotlandVonRickens

Living up to that contract will be one big measuring stick on the teams success.

I'm gonna take a page from many of the seniors on this site and say the eye test says different.

- NorthNuck

He slowed the play down at the wrong time & was also pretty sloppy on many PP’s. Just has to up his pace skating & on his decisions. Easy to say & see from high camera angles. Still can up his face off wins.
