I like Mcleod, We needed a defensive centerman. I think his offense has more to give than shown. Hope he proves you wrong and me right - DirtyDan
my guess is if we moved krebs and a 2nd for mcleod and a 5th for malenstyn then fans would be happier
I think many feel we got fleeced in both trades |

I get us Sabres fans like making a big deal of every little thing cause boy its been along 13 years but oh franking well we didn't get prospect xyz that would be 20th in our pool right now.

If we moved Krebs and a 2nd for Mcleod they would of been "fleeced". Its very strange how fanbases over value their prospects and picks. Anton Whalberg was being asked for more than Savoie.
We got roster players for futures. Its what was asked of by the fan base. If Savoie's shoulder can hold up he might be something one day. Time will tell. |

We're still sitting here talking about defensive mismatch that could have been quite easily solved with basic competency by removing joker, but no. Moron at the helm. - TheSabresTaco
3rd full year for Power, and still no clear partner. They never got Dahlin the partner he needed early on. That stuff bothers me.
They had a 5+ year plan to draft and develop for Donnie, and now Lindy wants a more traditional team.

Draft half a dozen 1st round C's, then trade for a 3C. Now that's a plan. Trade down and grab another too.
Are either of these guys here long term?

If they didn't sign Bryson, it would have been another Clague/Gilbet/Stillman/etc. Jack Rathbone is that kind of guy.
You want Novikov playing hockey, not hanging around as a 7/8. Can't/Shouldn't count on him being NHL ready. - Lunaion
Like your last point, don't rush him. Seems like a nice find. |

I think the main issue I have is the return to the idea that this pick was only "slightly" higher than the player. I'm not sure his value is above a 5th, but as you say, oh (frank)ing well.
The rest is fair. He plays PK. 2nds aren't sure things. With him you know exactly what you're getting.
I still hate it. Not as much as giving up on Savoie for a center who can't stick handle or shoot, but it's neck and neck. Wish I could get over it. I can't. It hurts inside my friend. - QuinnFan
You don't trade back for a Extra 2nd and then trade it for Beck. Adams heard No to many times and IMO made a bad trade. Hope I am wrong |

When your job is on the line, long term value goes out the window. He had a brutal 'value' summer. Hopefully helped them enough on the ice by completely reserving his original plan.

I do not think Beck is a bad player but you give up a 4th or 5th round pick for those guys not 2nd round |

this is the problem
you have all these first rounders sitting in the pipeline and now the panic moves start where you ship out top 10 picks for bottom 6 players
and sign a 32 year old winger with 14 goals to a 5 mil contract

What's that plan Now ? Do these Draft picks fit Lindy Hockey and is 2 years long enough to make it work or figure it out. |

The guy with 0 pts in in 3 games is a real hit?
There really wasn't anyone around that pick that jumps out to me that was a need. The trade really is meaningless. We got a big fast pker for a second. So be it. Move the frank on already people. - DirtyDan
Thank you.
WTF!?
A friggin 2nd at 42 with about 30% chance of playing NHL hockey (>99 gms)...in 5 years.
Holy Christ, perspective people ... get some.
Such an over reaction and waste of Internet ink. |

It's an excellent question. All the talk is about surviving this year. Can't imagine there is a plan for Rosen, Kulich, Ostlund, and Helenius all in the lineup a year from now. I know we get fed ' position of strength' constantly. Moving guys who can't crack the lineup sure feels like 'position of weakness'. |

Adams wonders why No one wants to play in Buffalo! Like I have said for a few years. "Gotta Look like your trying to Win Somewhat". Adams plan to build through the draft just doesn't Work in the NHL. Things change to quickly |

So the best argument to make for the trade is that one guy is an NHL hockey player and the other will take time to develop? So, is every NHLer worth a 2nd rounder? I really don't get what this means my friend. Just because one commodity is unknown does not mean it doesn't hold value. Conversely, most replacement level players like Beck are acquired for free or very little.
At the end of the day, you can be of the mind to trade the pick instead of drafting potential, but I don't see how you can justify him as the return there. - QuinnFan
No,
The best argument is they needed a new 4th line and Beck fit the identity they were trying to establish.
Meanwhile, the 2nd at 42 has about 30% success rate after 4-5 years which misses the window of need.
Why draft a guy who is expected to have a 70% failure rate?
We have far more important issues to resolve, like protecting our dogs and cats |
