I think Frost has to play 2C the entire season, no more benchings or moving him around the lineup. I don't care how he plays to be honest, just keep him at 2C and playing with good wingers and lets see how he does. The Flyers need to either commit to him or trade him at the deadline, and either way Frost has to play consistent minutes and in the same spot in the lineup. - jd250
I agree. If he gets that opportunity and does not excel the Flyers should move on.
Personally, I do not think he gets that opportunity.

not realistic. if he warrants being benched then so be it. applies to any player.
if he isn't producing is it fair to the other players to keep him in the same spot? |

Honestly, the Flyers need to give him a little leeway. The benching card is played much quicker on Frost and Brink then other players. Give him the same leeway Foerster got last year when he scored 1 goal in the first 20 games. The Flyers have zero depth at center. They need to accurately determine if Frost is a legit NHL middle six center. Can't do that if he is not playing.

I don’t think it boils down to production though, as we saw with forester. He may have had a slow start on the scoresheet but he was a tenacious forechecker and did all the other little things to make up for that lack of production. The body language of frost and brink when they aren’t scoring leaves a lot to be desired when they’re trying to get regular minutes in the best league in the world.
I think frost gets leeway this year because they need to prop him up enough to make a trade if it comes to that
I don’t think players will feel slighted because they all know this is a make or break year for him and they are all rooting for him |

The Flyers had a shot at a top D this past draft. They passed it up.

I agree and a fair expectation of Frost if that happens will be 15-20 goals and somewhere around 40 assists. That's the area of production he needs to get to be a legit 2C.

It is impossible to do nothing. The act of doing nothing is doing something.

I have never watched the kid play, funny enough I doubt a ton of you have either. He was the 6th D taken in the draft, is that correct? But he’s a sure thing to be this top D in the NHl. How good were these other kids taken before him. |

I've never seen him play. The consensus scouting report is that Buium has top pairing potential. The consensus scouting report on Luchanko is 2/3C.

The consensus scouting report doesn’t really mean jack. I would have preferred Helenius. My point more is folks are acting like this Dman is gods gift yet he was the 6th taken; you do the math. |

Of course it does. It's very relevant. You're wrong about what people think he is. Opinions I have read from people is that they think that Buium was the better choice at that pick than Luchanko. The argument of where he was taken has been explained numerous times. |

Yes, I agree. I would even be happy with 15 goals and 50 assists. Frost should be a 60pt a season player. I sincerely hope Briere has told this to Torts, that no matter what Frost plays. |

I don't think Frost at this stage of his career and development should do anything to be benched. He understands what Torts wants from him. I watched Frost live in the game against Boston and I really saw Frost hustling for every puck and battling hard. I also saw him score an outstanding goal from in close between his legs. He may never shoot as much as I would like him to, but the kid tries out there for the most part. He just needs to play that way consistently game in and game out, and if he does and plays with wingers like Michkov and Foerster, he's going to put up points. If he doesn't the Flyers move on from him. Either way, Torts has got to let him play 2C and be a mainstay on the PP.
And speaking of the PP, the coaching staff has got to settle on a 1st and 2nd PP unit and then keep it that way for the entire season barring injury. This is one BIG change I want from the coaching staff this year since to me chemistry is the number 1 thing a good PP has and you don't get that if you shuffle players in and out of the PP units. They need to practice it regularly and play cosnistently. I see this with the Bruins and its uncanny. They always know where everyone is and that means they move the puck quickly and get pucks on net without hesitation. |

i believe this was luchenko's projection because that's where he played for the majority of his time with Guelph. I don't know the time table of these projections vs. what has played out but when he was forced into a larger role once Matt Poitra was drafted by the Bruins he more than exceeded expectations (again, 60 point increase) which is why I think this could be a sleeper pick.
considering his age he could very well have been a top C prospect the following year. i say this as speculation. not fact. try it sometime. |

13th is not going to move the needle. The Flyers need to be picking in the top 10, preferably in the top 5, if they want to truly build through what Jones refers to as a very importawnt draft that they have to get right. Otherwise, the Flyers might as well trade the 13th pick for an established player. - jd250 I think you misunderstood. They are picked to finish 13th in the east and 26th overall. They would be drafting in the 6th spot in that scenario pending the lottery luck.

The only counter I have is when were these opinions where formulated. Buium to me with be a similar defenseman to York, which is really good. Luchenko really was a late in the season bloomer so I really don't think his projections were updated based on his 2nd half performance. I believe he is going to have a monster year and you will see his projection move to a 1C if he does. This happened with Bonk also. Bonk was projected by some to be a 2nd round pick with potential to be a 2nd pairing defenseman. Now after his +1 season, redrafts would put him into the top 10 of that draft class and he has been projected by some to be a 1st pairing RHS defenseman. |

in the end none of it really matters. sounds like there is some tension with kurt overhardt. people would call for danny's head if he picked a player from his agency group back to back years and buium decided not to play for us. 6th dman drafted in the first round doesn't scream "franchise player" - if overhardt gave one client an out whats stopping other players from taking the same route? it's perfectly reasonable to not want to go down that path in this instance. will the flyers work with KO in the future? sure, but there's no love lost avoiding it the year after a public embarrassment.

what I appreciate about this response is, as a fellow flyers fan, you simply corrected him and we can all move forward with a reasonable discussion.
there are folks here that would not let this go and spend 3-4 pages attempting to insult one of the few posters that legit want to have a discussion.
EDIT: i will also dial it back a bit since today so far has been cordial (except for me of course - LAME!) |
