I’ll take Pacioretty over the 165lb defensive liability happily. If your a bottom six guy playing D matters… and no, so long as they have Marner and Nylander on the top 6 Robertson won’t be there as a regular. - Dozzer
Patch is a liability and cant play top 6 anymore.
Im not a huge fan of Robertson, but he's not as bad defensively as you make him out to be. He's not great granted, but he's not that bad from what Ive seen. |

My son is just starting the studying for his G1. I'm sure the stress will come but my first thought here is that if he gets enrolled in a decent course - like Young Drivers - it will be vastly helpful.
I mentioned that I was 37 when I got my license - and I did take young drivers in a classroom full of 16 year old kids. We all just have to hope that our kids aren't like a few of the idiots who were in my class.
"When someone is going slow in the fast lane and you want to cut them off to show them how stupid they are, how do you know when it's safe to cut in?"
"The speed limit is just a recommendation, right?"
"I have the right of way over a pedestrian if I'm turning right, I could kill them!"
The instructor's horror at a few of the questions/statements was pretty entertaining. I'm not even doing it justice with the above - there were some far crazier things said that I'll have to try and remember. The first one (cutting a guy off) the instructor's eyes literally cartoon popped and he was like, "What?! God! Never! You don't . . you wouldn't . . .No. We are teaching defensive driving for a reason!"
But then the kid followed it up with something along the lines of saying that you were learning to drive defensively so you could be aggressive safely and again left the teacher just stunned on how to answer. - Monkeypunk
Was he the (frank)er driving in NJ yesterday? That story gets sadder for me as the day goes on. So (frank)ing horrible. RIP Johnny. His poor family.
Anywho, the driving course is key. Teenagers don't like to learn from their own parents...well most...well mine at least.
And while the teaching and the test is stressful the permit driving is just as stressful, eg: you want to just jump in the car to go get something quick but get the "dad can I come, I need driving hours"....nice chill solo drive listening to 80s alt music GONE...
But the very real stress starts when they start taking the car by themselves. Those anxiety riddled, sleepless times last until you get them to college without a car.
It literally all sucks, at least for me, until they're in their mid 20s. |

I think you gotta give Berube a shot with Robertson before cutting bait on him. Kid might be a late bloomer. If the dollars are OK, then don't be in a hurry to run him out of town. Leafs are short on options and his trade value isn't game changing.

I'd bet it's the same for a lot of people. I found it shocking at first and obviously sad - but as the shock wore off the sadness sort of hits you more. There are so many aspects to the story - whether it was his sister's wedding, the fact that Monahan signed with the Blue Jackets so their kids could grow up together, or just how much of an outpouring of love and grief you feel from the entire connected hockey community - it's an emotional snowball. |

He's told them he wants out. - BINGO!
We all know what he told them.
We also know that with no offer sheets he has little recourse right now. The Leafs could do him a favour but we're not in a position with our limited asset capital to take a loss there. He has to increase his value. Right now the Leafs lose on any deal for Robertson - he is better than his return value is going to be. If he goes out this year and has a good season trade offers or offer sheets will come in and perhaps, having gotten what he wants, he'll decide to stay - but none of that matters today.
Today Nick Robertson is worth a 4th round pick on the trading block - this is evidenced by the fact that he's not worth an offer sheet over $1.5m, which would bring in a 3rd round pick. He has the potential to be worth a 2nd round pick and is just 22 years old (he'll be 23 in a couple of weeks). Now if he signs this year and it doesn't pan out the options become better - maybe the Leafs don't qualify him, maybe the Leafs do accept that his value isn't going to go up - but even if he has a year this year like last one, he's still worth a 4th.
For the Leafs it makes total sense to keep him one way or another. For him it makes sense to sign and prove to everyone that he's an asset they want.

That’s only because he was put on the ice against the opposition’s bottom six guys… he didn’t need to play D
The leafs need physical players, they already have the offensive skill guys, therefore Robertson is exactly what the team doesn’t need. Can’t wait to see that half assed player shot out to the moon. |

It's so senseless and tragic that it's impossible to not think about.
As if the tragedy couldn't get any more unbearable, apparently, Matthew Gaudreau's wife is expecting their first child. |

Apparently on the remote video court appearance, the judge tells the driver he's in custody over the weekend and the driver let out an exasperated sigh and complained about having to be there.
I don't know what the laws are like in Jersey, but in Ontario it seems you can kill someone so long as you do it with a car you'll get a slap on the wrist.
If he had waited literally a couple of seconds it wouldn't have happened. I really hope New Jersey law makes him wait in a small cell for a long time. |

Poor guy.
He probably had big plans for the long weekend.
It’s a shame he has to cancel his bbq, just because he killed two people and shattered generations of a family. |

Another thought that just occurred to me:
The guy who pulled to the middle of the road to give the Gaudreaus a wider birth (i.e., trying to protect them/ensure their safety) - I’ll bet that poor soul has misplaced feelings of guilt and anguish. He’ll wonder if he had just stayed in his lane, this might not of happened.
It’s 100% not his fault of course, but survivor guilt is a real thing.
Just another life horribly changed by this senseless tragedy. |

He had an opened beer in the front seat and admitted to drinking 5 or 6 beers. When the judge denied bail until the arraignment he asked, "does that mean I do not get to go home until Thursday?" Murdering POS.

Unfortunately, killing someone drunk driving is treated as something less than involuntary manslaughter. IMO it should be treated as first degree murder. Craig McTavish served one year in prison for murdering someone while drunk driving.

While I agree with you on this Dozzer, Robertson is still an asset. If the offer is a seventh rounder, (frank) that, he scored 15 goals with limited time and will easily score 20-25 on a crappy team. Trade him sure, but get something meaningful in return. Pacioretty is a fart box, no thanks.
