I disagree ....I think he wants to be here and has a number. Tree has a different number. They're probably not that far apart.
They both agree to play out the year and see how things go. If he smashes Sep-Dec then you'll see the Leafs move towards his number.
Same as 88 last year ....
My guess ...he signs sometime between now and Feb 1 at 12.5x8. - The Law
If I'm Marner's agent, I want to sign a deal prior to his playoff flop. |

Pure speculation on my part but McD and Leon are tight ...I can't imagine Leon locking up 8 yrs unless he knew that there was a really good chance McJesus is leaning towards staying in Edmonton. - The Law
Edmonton always gets guys to sign in the summer...
...because no way in hell anyone is going to commit to more years in Edmonton during the winter. |

And for some mathematical context
MacKinnon's new deal 12.6M starting in 23' (cap was 83.5) ...
Prorate that to 25' projected cap of ~92 ...
Equals ~14M
Draisatl roughly on par with Nate the Great I think ...makes sense.
Edit ...also AM34 13.25 in 24' (88M cap).
All 3 contract are ~ 15% of cap. Makes sense I think. |

It's getting harder to find decent quality hotdogs that aren't gross. I used to love a good oscar mayer hotdog and now they are rubbery and inedible.
A lot of the "all beef" dogs have a weird (to me) gritty texture that turns me off.
God only knows what they use for them now. They were already using the leftovers before deregulation and corporate greed unleashed them to cut more corners with impunity.
Look at what they just found in that Boar's Head facility.
But.....now I want a good chili dog with all the fixins. - GalacticStone
Oh no, these are the poop small hotdogs...these arent the ballpark outdoor BBQ dogs.
these are the cheap $1 dogs. |

I'm sure Treliving gives him $12.5m. I love Mitch Marner. I just don't know if he's worth $12.5m.
I know the facts - he's 26, turning 27 and sits 8th all-time on the Leafs scoring list after only 8 seasons. Auston Mattews is 26, turning 27 and sits 6th - and he makes $13.5m. What is Mitch worth? Willy is overpaid, so I'm sure Mitch will be, too.
In fact if you took the top 100 Leaf scorers of all time and averaged their scoring out to an 82 game season, these would be the top-20 most offensively gifted Leaf players from 1950 onwards (so with due respect to Drillon, Conacher, Dye, Apps, Carr and Noble - the eras were so different, you just can't really compare them):
Auston Matthews: 54G, 41A, 95Pts
Doug Gilmour: 27G, 67A, 94Pts
Mitch Marner: 28G, 63A, 91Pts
Darryl Sittler: 38G, 51A, 89Pts
Wilf Paiement: 34G, 55A, 89Pts
Eddie Olczyk: 37G, 48A, 85Pts
Rick Vaive: 46G, 37A, 83Pts
Mats Sundin: 35G, 47A, 82Pts
Dave Andreychuk: 44G, 36A, 80Pts
Lanny McDonald: 38G, 41A, 79Pts
John Tavares: 34G, 44A, 78Pts
Alexander Mogilny: 30G, 47A, 77Pts
William Nylander: 30G, 42A, 72Pts
Norm Ullman: 25G, 47A, 72Pts
Phil Kessel: 33G, 39A, 72Pts
Bill Derlago: 34G, 38A, 72Pts
Vincent Damphousse: 25G, 44A, 69Pts
Frank Mahovlich: 34G, 34A, 68Pts
Tom Fergus: 27G, 41A, 68Pts
Miroslav Frycer: 29G, 38A, 67Pts
Dave Keon: 28G, 38A, 66Pts
Obviously this method has some issues with the comparison - guys later in their careers would lower their averages compared to guys playing in their prime (so you would conceivably expect to see our current star players with lower totals as their careers progress) - that said the initial years while they were rookies and not even established yet are also considered, so it's a mixed bag.
It's tough to argue against Marner's value from a franchise perspective.

For me it's never really been about the individual contracts. History will show their contracts were all relatively fair. The issue is 4 forwards being allocated that much ...at the expense of defense and g'tending.
With JT dropping off and elite talent hard to find ....I can see why re-signing the big 3 is the game plan.

Agreed. The leafs will be stuck paying the core 3 just under $40m total.....which I guess is a change from paying the core 4 just over $40m.
I can see Edmonton signing Mcdavid for $15m.....I dont think McD goes after all he could get.
But we'll see. |

Mirtle has a great article in the Athletic today about how Robertson should quit whining and just sign with the Leafs.
A few highlights:
"The organization also clearly hasn’t unfairly banished him: Robertson has played just 11 games in the American Hockey League over the past two years. His last on-ice stint there was way back in November, when he piled up five goals and 11 points in nine games to force his way back to the NHL for good."
"He also will now require waivers to be sent to the Toronto Marlies, meaning the demotion in March that happened largely for salary-cap reasons — one of Robertson’s key recent grievances with the Leafs — is simply not going to happen this year.
He’ll be with an NHL team all season. If it’s in Toronto, it’ll be up to him to show the new coach he deserves to play more than the 11:23 minutes per game he had last season.
It’s hard to imagine a scenario where that number doesn’t increase substantially, however."

I guess there's the worry of being stuck in the Leafs' press box all year, but if I'm him, I sign and see if they put me on waivers.
