this election cannot come soon enough so we're done with it. - fidopro
The US are always in election mode ... the partisanship is pathological at this point. |

Yeah, drafting smurfs has brought us nowhere for 30 years.
Unless a player is above average in skills, always draft players who are bigger and pack a lot of muscle. This is a contact sport after all. - Garfield512

my point remains that drafting bigger isn't necessarily drafting better, I'm not trying to compare those 3 players in particular. sure, smaller players might have to work harder but it doesn't mean they can't be regular NHLers.

absolutely. but they need to be better, much better. what I was saying.
the other thing is that when you already have many small players... you try not to draft more small players. a big team like Vegas, or DAL, or WASH... yes you can add a small player to your roster. Habs... not really, they have more than enough as it is. |

like McDavid...?
but yes, as I said earlier, I agree that for the habs at this particular point in time, they need to be looking to add size. that being said, talent and skills still need to be considered, so it might be best in some cases to go with a smaller pick if you know that he'll be the better player and have better trade value down the line than another bigger available guy. |

that was a little bit exagerated but you got the point.
and sure, noone ever said to draft on size only. that's plain stupid. |

I would love to see stats pertaining to size, injuries, and career length... I think the "smaller = fragile" theory is a myth, or at least greatly exaggerated.

Look at the teams who have won the cup in the last 20 years ... not many were packed with smurfs. They might have one or two but these guys are usually stars.
The playoffs grind is real and is meant for big boys. Whether we like it or not, this is not a game for light weights come playoff time.
