Ti-Paul was a big hearted player and always faced big bottom 6 guys from other teams night after night ... but his career was cut short because of injuries.

I have no way to prove this but if he had played in the top 6, he might still be playing. Just saying ...

- Garfield512

even for bigger players, you need to have an elite quality. Caufield has a shot, Byron was fast, Gallagher = work ethic... for big players they have more leeway (because of their size) but eventually it will catch up to them. a younger, more skilled, big kid will come along and steal their job. but not always! see McCarron and Tinordi, they're still playing.
that's the easiest way to evaluate a young player and if he has a chance long term. does he have an elite quality or not? if not.... here's your ticket for Laval.

mostly because of a dumb fight that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

if he had played against top 6 guys and top dmen all the time he might not have been as efficient either.

- Pat1993

Let me put it another way:

If Caufield wasn't in our top 6 ... do you see him having any role in our bottom 6?
He's on the team because he's skilled in spite of his small size ... as soon as he stops producing he'll be sent down or traded.

It's harsh but it's reality ... pro sport 101.

no, not really, I completely disagree. it isn't because Byron was efficient in a bottom 6 role that Caufield would be, it just isn't the same skillset and talent level we're talking about.

I don't think we'll see eye-to-eye on this, but it's all good

Yep, to make to it to the show you have to bring something to your team otherwise you're just another easily replacable commodity ... it's the nature of pro sports.

it doesn't mean all that much but it was also pretty cool that he was named team captain for the tournament, I doubt they would've done that if he didn't have any leadership qualities. could become quite the player.

pffft, a simple glance in the journal de Mourrial can tell you what you need to know, why wait to watch the games.

he might, but at the core, he's a poodle when Mailloux is a rottweiler. you cannot change that, or teach that. we all hope Barron does well, otherwise that trade is not looking good at all.

well Mailloux is 20 pounds heavier and does have a meaner streak to his game, that doesn't mean Barron can't become a decent NHL defenseman of his own.

meh, Barron is still only 22, which is still very young for a dman, when it's all said and done I don't think the trade will look all that horrible. we'll see.

He has the physical tools (skating, size, etc) ... from the little I've seen of him, his problem seems to be between his ears.

He seems to lack confidence and afraid to make mistakes and this paralyses him.

I'm no psychiatrist so what do I know.

No need for a psychiatrist after all ... just a good vet.
