If everyone is healthy, there is really only one spot that might be open. When are you going to admit that acquiring Ristolainen was a complete and utter disaster?
- MJL
Complete and utter disaster? Never, because Risto has never been a complete and utter disaster as a player since he has been in the league. When the Flyers traded for him, I posted that I thought Risto could be a really good player if he actually got consistent coaching and played within a good system; he got neither in Buffalo. Unfortunately for Risto, his first season with the Flyers saw AV get fired within the first 20 games of the season and an interim head coach after that. Risto had arguably his best all around NHL season under Torts and Shaw in 2022, and last year Risto was hurt most of the year. I am already on record in 2021 that Risto should have been traded at the deadline since it was clear the Flyers needed to cut bait with Giroux and immediately rebuild, but as you know Fletcher doubled down instead. I also posted after the extension that I was against extending Risto given the situation the Flyers were in. So I think I have been very fair with Risto, much more fair to Risto in fact that you have been.

according to you acquiring rr was a move that chuckles made to put the Flyers on the path to a Stanley Cup
So Kolosov is apparently not attending camp this week. When are we allowed to start blaming the Flyers for this? Got quite a few names on the list of players that do not want to play here.

Where did Bill state that Luchanko will make the team out of camp next season? You keep repeatedly making a big deal out of his draft +1 season and are overvaluing it. - MJL
He says he will challenge for a spot. So both of you can argue the semantics of it for the rest of the day as you will.

The only name that upsets me is Cutter.
Kolosov is currently a good, not a great goalie. Laine, who the f cares. RYJO can retire for all I care.

Trading a 1st, 2nd and a roster player for Ristolainen, who has never been more than a middling 2nd pair defenseman as a Flyer, and has degraded into a 3rd pair defenseman now that is overpaid and mediocre. Has been a complete and utter disaster of a move for the Flyer. I didn't read your full post because it will just be the same nonsense over and over.
The Flyers will not find a taker for Risto this year in my opinion. Maybe next year if he plays well. Seeler and Sanheim control their fates via trade for the most part. I do not think they should trade York or Drysdale. So that leaves Zamula and Johnson. Either could be moved to make room. I just don't think any of other d-men will force the Flyers hand. - mickel25
EJ is non factor. Hes going to be in the press box most nights. Comes down to
Sanheim
York
Drysdale
Seeler
Risto
Zamula
Seeler has trade protection but he can be waived and demoted. Waiving may be more preferable than playing in Allentown. Seeler has only been a regular roster player the past year or so and hes in his 30s. His spot is not a lock imo
Ristolainen i think can be traded. I dont think we will get anything back. I think retention should be a non starter but depending on cost i might be willing to part with a mid pick to get rid of him or perhaps a RyJo like contract we could bury in the minors
Not much to add on Zamula.
Flyers could also keep someone up and alternate D which they did last season. Not ideal but can be a temporary solution

You can but only if you give them credit for enticing 39 to come here. His agent told other teams at the draft not to draft him, but the flyers were on his list.

No argument to be made. jd250 is as usual, a fountain of misinformation. Challenging for a spot is quite different than predicting that he will be on the team. I knew what Bill was most likely to have said, before even hearing what was said.

You're wrong that Johnson is a non factor. He will see his fair share of games and he is taking away a roster spot potentially for a young player. Seeler is not going to be waived. He is an everyday player for the Flyers. A trade of Ristolainen is unlikely for a while. If at all.

They should be applauded for that for sure. Doesn't change the fact that we now have five known cases of players choosing not to be here in the last two years. Different circumstances for each but nonetheless it is becoming a trend.

What’s fair share? Is he a non factor if he plays 20 games, 25, how about 30?

Johnson is not the issue. Risto is the issue and that was Fletchers move.

Who are the 5 and why cant quitter just say what his issue was?
If Z is even with another dman I am keeping him on the roster as we need guys that can speak the language and he has proven to be a pretty tough kid from a maturity perspective. Might be good to have around.
There is no scenario Seeler gets moved to the 7th spot. None. - furio16
There absolutely is. This guy is not a coinfirmed Rosterplayer. He was a AHL\NHL tweener until a season or two ago. They are not going to play him over other guys if he sucks which is completely possible. If someone has a fantastic camp, Seeler could potentially be the guy demoted or sitting.
Why should he? It's not hard to figure out what the issue was. - MJL
ok then why not just say it. If it's that obvious wouldnt anyone with even an ounce of character actually just be honest. I see his buddy in the peg did the same. No reason. Until he says the reason, I can't blame the flyers. Now if there are 4 or 5 guys over a year or two I would 100% agree that is a cause for concern, but quitter seems like maybe he was afraid of the pressure.

Not there is not. What are you talking about. He was resigned to a new 4 year deal. Seeler is a roster lock and a top 4 defenseman for this team. This is not a season or two ago. It is now. There is no chance that he doesn't make this team and start. Only thing that can change that is an injury.

There is nothing for him to gain by speaking publicly about it. It is a closed situation. It's obvious what happened and how the Flyers royally screwed up. Nothing to do with being afraid of the pressure. Gauthier was ready to sign and play for the Flyers in March of 23.

Its funny hearing people complain about him. Hes going to play 20-30 games like you mention, yet somehow hes blocking a young player. If the Flyers brought up Andrae and only played him 20-30 games, people here would be going nuts because young players need to play, Everyone lost their minds because Frost sat for 11 games yet the same people want to bring up a young player to sit for 50 games
EJ's role is pretty much to sit there just in case. It takes time to call up someone from the Phatoms, they no longer play across the street. Call ups need to be done in advance.
