The Bev on Queen, across from old CityTV was a constant of ours. Croc Rock, of course - but because of the cheap beer at the Apartment we'd usually head there after 9pm. Alice Fazooli's had my favourite garlic bread ever.

I lived for years in various places downtown (Queen / Stephanie, Queen & John - above the Donut Centre, which is now a Starbucks, Queen & Spadina, etc.) - I don't think I ever went in the Bamboo Club.

We had a company softball league that played at Coronation Park (Bathurst and the Lakeshore) beside the Tip Top Tailor building) and many of us would go to the Wheat Sheaf after. Although our team often went to Harbour sports grill or Peel Pub or All-Stars . . . less populated bars that offered good service!

I can't believe I forgot the Bev. Great patio.

The 'boo was the same sorta thing - you never went in, you just went to the rooftop patio. They also had a really good patio dish that was totally unrelated to their theme. I want to say it was pad thai, but I can't remember.

I also had an office near the Rex in the 1990s - still one of my favourite places. I don't really get there more than once a year now, but one of the best dive bars in Toronto, with great live music.

Had a friend who lived in that condo building - we used to go there sometimes before Leafs games.

Didn't they have a mountain of meatballs?

One huge regret I had - I always wanted to go for a couple of pre-game drinks at Captain John's. Just to say I did it. Sadly, it closed before I scratched that itch.

We went there because my wife and I lived in that building, too (before we were married) - we lived on the Queen's Quay side. I remember the mountain of meatballs but we were definitely in it for the wings.

BTW, you sincerely didn't miss anything other than the experience at Captain John's! It was before I developed my shellfish allergy, but we ate there and it may have been the worst seafood I've ever had - and I'm not kidding!

Just to bow this up - I agree with this 100%. Our office was located at 370 King Street in the mid 90s, which was beside My Apartment on Peter Street. My Apartment had $2 mixed drinks or beer, which was a terrific price, even then. You'd go in and buy a round for $20, and everyone else would be getting you back - and by 9pm people are stumbling out pretty, pretty happy.

The networking, socializing and development of a real work team atmosphere between a lot of different groups happened there.

That's basically lost, and it's a shame.

I worked in office at Bloor and St. Thomas. When I had first briefing with Senior Execs, I was told to meet them downstairs later that afternoon. I went to offices on floor below and asked them. Silly boy, they’re in the 22 - the bar in the Windsor Arms right around the corner. They would be down there, working but the aid of very good Martinis. Steaks and serious drinks were pretty standard at lunch as well.

I lived on Major Street about 6 houses down from Bloor. The sounds and smells in the alleyway between the house and The Brunswick at closing time were very special.

Once upon a time, I worked in an office tower that had a bar on the 1st floor.

It was affectionately known as "the 1st floor board room."

He was dealt by Carolina because he has a really low ceiling, they have a huge logjam of prospects, and he's 23 years old already.
- BINGO!

He was dealt because he wouldn't sign with them because of the logjam.

Mrs. Wedgie and I lived 3 blocks north of the Brunny in the late 1990s.

I never went in there the entire time we lived there (I had been in many times in years previous, and had no desire to ever go again), but we would always have to walk past it at night to get home.

Every. Single. Night. Bouncers throwing out drunks violently. Drunks fighting back. Bouncers winning easily. Drunks threatening to sue or to come back with their friends and beat up the bouncers.

Quite frankly, I was glad to see it close (years later).

Right. The logjam being a problem because he's 23 years old and not particularly good.

A 4th round pick for a 6th rounder. Carolina essentially paid to have him moved. You should try logic sometime.

The Underground on Thursday nights circa 2000-2010 was probably the pinnacle of my "networking" days.

And btw, I'm going to apologize for all the beer I spilled on your shoes over the years at most of those spots. That list kept leaning slightly west over the years - downtown core/esplanade ...then a little west between Uni/Spadina ...then a little further west between Spadina/Bathurst ...now add in some Ossington strip.

Johnny Hockey story gets worse...his wife is pregnant. Apparently she announced it at the memorial. That's some sad poop right there...to add to the already sad poop.

EK, whatever you did to fix your website seems to have stopped all the junk, trash and porn pop-ups so far today.

You think you can change it back for me?

What a horrible thing. I wonder how much gets paid out for life insurance with a big contract like that, one hope there's as much as possible for his family.

To add to the bar scene list in the 90s...random names but does any one else remember:

Still Life
RPMs
Diamond Club
Harry's (Eglinton and Young area I think?)
There was another big club kinda close to the top of Yorkville (maybe that was that RPMs?)

Then there were some bars in Scarborough and around Steeles and 404 or 7 and 404 but the names are vague so guesses:

Falcon's Nest maybe
Julie's maybe
Paparazzi's maybe

Any of these juke joints ring a bell?

(Might be California bars...been drunk here for a very long while so it all gets mangled together. )
