What a horrible thing. I wonder how much gets paid out for life insurance with a big contract like that, one hope there's as much as possible for his family. - Zezel
Ya, I hope money is never a issue for their family. That's the last thing they need after this but one has to guess they will be just fine. |

A 4th round pick for a 6th rounder. Carolina essentially paid to have him moved. You should try logic sometime. - Dozzer
A fourth round pick from 5 years ago with one goal in 123 college hockey games. It's amazing anybody was willing to give up anything at all for him. |

EK, whatever you did to fix your website seems to have stopped all the junk, trash and porn pop-ups so far today.
You think you can change it back for me?

To add to the bar scene list in the 90s...random names but does any one else remember:
Still Life
RPMs
Diamond Club
Harry's (Eglinton and Young area I think?)
There was another big club kinda close to the top of Yorkville (maybe that was that RPMs?)
Then there were some bars in Scarborough and around Steeles and 404 or 7 and 404 but the names are vague so guesses:
Falcon's Nest maybe
Julie's maybe
Paparazzi's maybe
Any of these juke joints ring a bell?
(Might be California bars...been drunk here for a very long while so it all gets mangled together. ) - underhill14
A decade earlier but the Big Bop, Boom Boom Room, the Rivoli and the Bamboo Club where we had our engagement party were all kind fun. |

RPM for sure. It was (IIRC) on Spadina, then moved to waterfront, just east of Yonge.
Harry's at Yonge and Eg does not ring a bell - but if we are talking about that neighbourhood, you have to put the Unicorn on the top of the list.
One in Yorkville was either Shark Club or the Barricuda (one of them was Yorkville, one of them was Yonge around St. Clair).

I’m officially at the age where the first thing I think about when I see Fred’s car would be the fuel demand because of those “tires” lol |

Through the 90s clubwise you had the Dance Cave, Catch-22, the Boom Boom Room, Whiskey Saigon, Limelight, Sanctuary, Death in the Underground, Savage Garden, Velvet Underground . . then some more mainstream stuff like the Big Bop, the Phoenix, the Joker . . .the 90s in downtown Toronto was absolutely fantastic no matter which crowd you were in.

Those all sound familiar, but I wasn't 19 until late 80s and looked too young to get into a bar until I was probably 30, so not sure I could frequent them. |

I was born in 1970 - we'd go downtown in the late 80s and there was an LCBO at Spadina and Bloor that didn't card you if you looked "close" and we'd go buy the cheapest strongest largest bottles of wine and wander around drinking them until we had a solid tipsy on and then we'd go to The Empire, which was on Yonge by Wellesley. We'd buy coke and then mix that with whatever we'd smuggled from home in a flask. That's where I learned that Gin doesn't go with Coke. I was positive my friend's mom had put floor cleaner in the Gin bottle to teach us a lesson!

Nastiest poop I ever drank was some Beefeater Dry Gin mixed with RC Cola. I was about 17 and didn't know better. Puked my guts out. Have only had gin once or twice since then and still don't like it.

That's basically what we were drinking and I 100% agree with you.
I have discovered that I like gin in recent years - Fever Tree tonic water w/ gin & half a lime juiced . . .I admit it's been Aviation gin because according to my wife, Ryan Reynolds is my boyfriend. I have no idea if it's any good with other gin or not!

Mrs. Wedgie and I lived 3 blocks north of the Brunny in the late 1990s.
I never went in there the entire time we lived there (I had been in many times in years previous, and had no desire to ever go again), but we would always have to walk past it at night to get home.
Every. Single. Night. Bouncers throwing out drunks violently. Drunks fighting back. Bouncers winning easily. Drunks threatening to sue or to come back with their friends and beat up the bouncers.
Quite frankly, I was glad to see it close (years later). - Atomic Wedgie
I lived at Bloor and Spadina for a year when I was 20. The Brunny was a sh1tshow. |
