Which is precisely what I said. He isn’t passing the tests he has to pass to get that contract.
(frank) sakes I don’t even want him, even if he is “good enough” he’ll be nothing like he used to be. - Dozzer
I honestly hadnt heard of him that much prior to early July.
Had to look up his deets. |

Well Tre wouldnt say anything about any player if he's not asked.
Precisely what you said was they weren't close to a deal.
They were.
Something with his health stopped the contract from being signed.
Either way, he's a depth D....if he doesn't sign, the leafs move on.....or they move on anyway. - Fakepartofme
Will you start reading my entire post please?
I’ve said over and over that it’s obvious this guy hasn’t passed the tests hence why he has no new contract. He was likely given til about now to change that with workouts and he hasn’t.
Either way the guy will suck ass now, even Dallas knows this. Only leaf fans can be impressed by a junk pile now. |

I don't think Woll is a bad goalie, just his injury history. Injuries take a goalie out of their groove and Storarlz seems to be more durable.
So for me, if Woll goes down and Storlarz takes the net and is durable and finds/keeps his groove going, Woll will have to win the #1 back...until he gets injured again.
My bold prediction is only because I don't think it would be easy for Woll to win the #1 spot back when he inevitably gets injured. - underhill14
I don’t think Woll goalie either. Though I absolutely don’t think he’s anywhere near ‘fantastic’ that’s for certain ha.
I think he’s an average to good NHL backup. Just don’t think he’s an NHL starter. I suppose in a shared net situation if the guy he’s sharing it with is much better - it could work? Not a good look though for a team in win now mode though….the improved d will help for sure at the same time. |

If you look at the cumulative goalie stats over the past 3 years, Woll is 7th in the NHL in Goals saved above expected / 60 - where he is in excellent company, trailing only: Shesterkin, Sorokin, Andersen, Hellebuyck, Ullmark . . . and Stolarz(!). At 26 years old with little history or chance to build one, I think he'll put up this year. Obviously he got that contract because the Leafs believe in him, too - but I have said that I still don't love how guys are getting larger contracts with too little sample data to back it up.
In terms of another stat I'm a fan of - quality start percentage (basically games with a save percentage over .900), Woll ranks 30th out of 77 - so he does need to work on his consistency and there's likely some aspect of what you say in there - after coming back from injury, he takes some time to get back in the groove.
Stolarz - 6th in QS%. I'm a fan of his numbers.
With regards to Woll, though - last year after he came back from injury he was given almost all of the hard starts (2nd of back-to-backs, the harder teams, the road games against harder teams and so on) and Samsonov was given all of the soft starts. I don't know if the goal was to try and build Sammy's confidence - but if there's one thing that says to me - in their heart of hearts they knew Samsonov was not the better goalie and they still went with him into the playoffs. I'm glad to have a new coach to make dumb mistakes. I was sort of sick of the last coach's dumb mistakes. |

He makes $3m for the next 6 years, he's six years older, and judging by last year's stats, already on the decline.
I am a fan of Engvall's puck control and smarts. You know who would (frank)ing hate him? Berube. Don't piss around with the puck by your own blue line hoping to get a better outlet lane or allowing people to regroup - especially not with forechecking pressure. Dump that puck and put pressure on the defense - that's what Berube is going to want to see from the bottom 6.

While giraffes are usually quiet, adult giraffes have been observed using snorts, coughs, hisses, bursts, moans, groans, grunts, whistles, and bellowing sounds
At least it’s obvious as to why you want him here |

You and me both. I was getting quite tired of Keefe.
I do like Storlarz numbers you posted. At least I have a bit of confidence in the net this year especially with him as back up.
I'm all for Woll taking the next step. Just hope he drank a lot of milk this summer.
Maybe we see Toronto's version of Swayman/Ullmark this season. |

The patch signing makes no sense unless they are still trading Robertson. They have Knies, McMann, Robertson, Holmberg and Dewer on the left side. With Cowan in the wings. All are young of course but I don't see a fit for a washed up Patch. Unless it's just a PTO and then they cut bait. |

Signing Pacioretty to a league minimum deal is a classic no risk/no reward move.
Bergevin used to do plenty of those for us. - Scabeh
At least it's a no risk/no reward for part time fourth liner just imagine signing Josh Anderson or Brendan Gallagher high risk/high cap hit/no reward for your top six |

Last I checked Leafs have plenty of 4th liners....shiit MiB has been writing about them for weeks.
We need a 2LW or 3 C...technically both but at least of them. |

Agree with that. Also think it’s more likely to pull one rabbit out of the hat for Tre. Because of that I’d shoot for a 2C. It allows for the most depth in my opinion options wise.
Top 6 wingers could be:
Willy
Domi
Marner
Knies/McMann
…with JT at 3C
Or
It could mean Top 6 wingers:
Willy
Domi
Marner
JT
…with Holmberg and Kampf as 3C/4C |
