McGroarty should be given every chance to earn a top 6 spot.
In my mind, St. Ivany already earned his spot. Unless he has a serious regression, he's already 3RD. I thought he looked great last year and Sully seemed to trust him. Hextall's best move as GM.
I like the lottery ticket approach with these kids from Dubas. I've been saying this for a few years now... Infusing youth into a roster (any organization) can revitalize the old guys. Sully will F it up and stick with aging vets. |

If Mcgroarty plays with Sid he better be dropping the gloves a good bit. I know he ran over one Euro guy at the world juniors, but still not sure he isn’t just another wussy. |

"Better be dropping the gloves a good bit"....like Kunitz, Dupuis, Hossa, Guenztel, Guerin and Sheary all did when playing his wing?
EDIT: very effectively played his wing* |

Well all those players except Guentzel (glad that passenger is gone) would actually have Sid’s back, because they played when it was still a big boy league. Not just an extension of college hockey. Kid needs to come in and be a killer. Not just some lifeless robot with a little bit of skill following Sullivan’s lead. Anything less is failure. |

I think that's a pretty accurate number for Sid. I'm guess 11.87 x 4. Not front loaded. - madmike71
I had this argument with my buddies...
does everyone really think he is going to get a raise? not that he doesn't deserve one (he does), but do you really think his cap hit will go up?
I (drunkenly) was willing to bet a week's salary that he would take 8.7/yr or less, specifically 6.1/yr, just like geno and letang. is this that crazy? that the trio would trio?

I have a feeling he's going to be anything but lifeless. Now, will he be able to produce well enough for top 6? will he be defensively responsible enough in any of the 12 forward sports for Sully to keep in lineup? he could very well be starting the season in the AHL, yet.
I dont think anything will surprise me with this kid. Anything from top line staple to starting the season in the A is possible in my mind haha.

I initially had a hard time thinking he would want a raise as well. However, I have read points from people around here and in the media that kind of swayed my thoughts on it.
Having said all of that....6.187...lets get it done.

Looks like most everyone is in town though don't think I saw Letang's name. Interesting top 3 lines to start (informal, Sully isn't involved though Jeff Carter is filling in as a coach).
DOC-Sid-Rust
Beau-Malkin-Hayes
Bunting-Eller-Rackell
Feels like Sid knows who he wants to start with and Malkin wanted to try out a couple of the new guys today. Rooting for McGroarty and Glass myself, but that wouldn't shock me as a top nine.
Also wonder if they would put someone with Malkin that can take some of the center responsibilities. As nice as the line with Bunting and Rackell looked, we may not want a line where Malkin is the defensive conscience. - Tojo.
I actually like those top 3 lines. I think DOC starts there, but I could see McGroarty getting a shot as well. I think Acciari could be the odd man out especially with some reports of Glass being a good defense forward. If Glass shows he can hold down a defensive role and play well ok the PK I think Glass pushed Acciari out.
I think the 4th line is
McGroarty - Lizotte - Glass

McGroaty will start the year in the AHL and will get top line and top PP minutes. And this is the most logical situation for both him and the Penguins roster management.
McGroaty is going to to turn into a nice player, potentially great, but he is not ready to ride shotgun with Sid and needs to learn the pro game and get a ton of minutes instead of playing 9 minutes on the 4th line. He was a great complimentary player in College hockey but he wasnt a guy who dominated play individually.
Remember Jake, who I think is a good comparable, had to prove himself in the A and he didnt actually crack the NHL until 22 or 23. Best scenario for McGroaty is to start the season in the AHL getting a ton of minutes and opportunity and coming up mid season to replace some injuries. |

Sounds like everyone at Jets camp has been raving about Yagers shot. Definitely top notch NHL quality shot, will be interesting to see how quickly he will put it all together but he is going to start the season in the WHL, which is not great for him. |

Stunting Mcgroarty’s development and a terrible 4th line all in one. Are you Mike Sullivan himself? |
