I think for the org he offers consistency, not necessarily with what torts is doing but what is expected of their players. You’re not gonna tell another coach how to coach or what systems to implement. You can commiserate and have equal values and shared beliefs but lappy isn’t in it for any other reason than to push his coaching style and resume forward. He has his own career path and his own philosophies on how to run a team.
In a perfect world your AHL team is doing exactly what your nhl team is doing per the playbook - but that’s never the case, is it? I think what’s more valuable is to teach these kids to be coachable. Am I for replacing him? I’m not against it - but you better have a good plan in place. If the nhl front office feels like they have a good synergy with lappy and everyone’s on the same page overall that’s all they can ask for.
If lappy has “ruined” any players coming through him I’d love to hear the list. The dude is a great hockey mind who understands how to treat and get through to players. If you want a revolving carousel of coaches in the AHL then have at it but that screams dysfunction more than letting him do his job

How do you know he is a great hockey mind?
In reality, one really cannot judge a development coach like Lappy without running some numbers, however rudimentary, that subtracts out the draft effect (quality of player entrusted to him) from the development of said player.
