NHL Owners will be meeting soon to approve the expansion opening. Leading candidates/ownership groups are believed to be Fertitta in Houston and Krause in Atlanta. #NHLexpansion #NHL

Atlanta.. I think that city has had its chances. Time to look elsewhere.

krebs is 16 months younger and the ppg between the 2 is minimal and mcleod was playing third line minutes with the oilers

I do think McLeod's defensive positioning and attention to detail makes him slightly more valuable, but you're right...there isn't some huge gap in overall talent IMO. One was stuck on the 4th line of a bad team, one on a 3rd line of a good team. Their production, points wise, would likely be the same in a similar situation.

Heavy legs starting to set in on the fourth lap of up and backs for the first on-ice training camp group, including Ristolainen, Konecny, Couturier and Foerster. And yes that’s John Tortorella screaming in the background.

Big difference between in shape and in-game shape.

Top line PK who was on the ice for zero PP goals against in the playoffs. I’ll give you time to digest that.

Now, I think Adams failed miserably not getting a top 6 winger and I hope it doesn’t destroy the season

- turbo044

Yeah, I don't think trading Savoie for a PK Specialist is smart business. Most teams acquire these types of players on the cheap or have a stable of them in the minors. Unfortunately we made a move for the sake of change. It was a bad trade, but we're left, as usual, trying to put lipstick on the pig.

But agreed, Adams has failed miserably in almost every quantifiable aspect of his job. I'm more worried it will destroy the franchise, the season is already garbage. We have no chance of really contending. We're basically hoping beyond hope to end the playoff drought and would expect an early exit if so.

Atlanta gets a bad wrap.

The ownership group who owned the thrashes were forced to buy them with the Atlanta hawks.

The thrashers were not allowed to spend money. No investment went into them.

That ownership group also started suing each other over money and eventually folded.

There was a group willing to buy the thrashers before they moved and move them to North Atlanta where they should be but the Atlanta ownership group was sketchy as (frank) about it.

Don't think it gets mentioned enough that they spent years drafting players to play Donnie hockey, now they want more traditional players and don't have them in the system.

Donnie didn't care much about L/R D. Lindy does.

Catering to Donnie has forced them to make bad value moves. Savoie/McLeod + Malenstyn aren't the end of this. Rosen + Ostlund don't project well onto this team next year. They got forced into a similar hole with Joker, who doesn't fit well on this team and will likely walk for nothing.

Right, and now he's stuck in between. This D group is awkward to work with and they are essentially dealing with it for another year because they couldn't move Joker.

Think I'll stick with couldn't. If you're willing to walk him to UFA, you're probably willing to take just about anything.

KA has terrible timing in this job.

I agree with literally everything you said outside of the fact that this forced their hand. Defensive forwards are not high value commodities. To get players like Beck or McLeod, minimal assets should've been moved. Instead we traded out of 11 and a former top10 pick to round out a bottom6 that is still not going to be a great unit.

Other GM's knew he was desperate.

Years of passivity caught up to him.

And that's a fair assessment, but that means you do nothing. Getting fleeced for the sake of making a trade isn't beneficial. Savoie should be Rochester bound right now and Kulich should be walking into that 3C spot.

Think you read what I wrote. They changed organizational philosophies and can't just keep waiting.

Maybe Kulich has an angle at a lineup spot sometime this season or next. I don't think Savoie, Ostlund, or Rosen do. Almost certainly not all 3. Now add Helenius.

Amassing this group of Donnie forwards was terrible plan from the start. There's no easy way out.

Well if McLeod is on line 4, I am glad I gave up Savoie for a 4th line plug! Yeah Baby. Just up the Sabres alley.

I expect a 4th line to be a pest

an underscoring third line that is ok on D

so does the top 6 take that next step?
does that d improve?
does the goalies make the saves?
does the pp and pk click?

Ruff play or replace!! As per Homie!!
sounds like the tempo will be picked up 2 or 3 clicks with ruff

Helenius at least does play a decent defensive game. While I agree the change in philosophy will mean there's assets that lose value, I just don't see a reason for justifying this much. Grinders are the easiest thing, of all options, to acquire.
