Thing is if that is true then the opposite is true as well. When a player fails, that is on the player itself for the most part. A player cant only be responsible for their success but not failures.
Lets face it look at all the players we know who have clashed publicly with Torts and responded poorly to him. Hayes, RyJo, DeAngelo, Laine and PLD. All 4 players in someway considered disappointments. Hayes is on his 3rd team in 2 years, No one wants RyJo, DeAngelo is no longer rostered, Laine was pretty much given away and PLD is on his 3rd team in 5 years. LA gave up on him after 1 season. There seems to be a common trend among these players.
Now guys who responed well to or challenged Torts like Konecny, Beiska, Lecavailer, Richards, St.Louis, York, Sanheim all ended up better seasons or having good careers. Torts is a fairly simple coach to play for. He wants 110% on the ice every game no exceptions. Do that and he will be happy, take shifts off and he wont be. He challenged York saying he wasnt sure he was an NHL Dman when they decided to sent down. He came back up with a vengence and now Torts has him as a top pair D. He has now done the exact same thing to Brink. Time to see how he responds. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
There are numerous players that Tortorella has singled out and missed on. Tortorella sent York down because he didn't like his personality and how he responded verbally when Tortorella got in his face. It's just the childish antics of Tortorella. He held York back.
Here is the bottom line, despite having some talented teams, Tortorella has not done squat as an NHL coach in over 16 coaching seasons. His methods simply are archaic and don't work. |

Clean hockey is staying out of the penalty box and being on the right side of the puck at all times. The hope is the younger players will take the next step. If they regress the Flyers will be screwed. - jd250
Having as a non-negotiable to always stay on the right side of the puck is one of the flaws of Tortorella's systems and philosophy. It's part of what makes him a bad developmental coach overall.

The game logs speak for themselves. Constantly being taken off scoring lines for defensive lapses over the years. It only stopped once Claude was traded. |

A bit odd it took so long for anyone to finally get a confirmation that it was in fact terminated. We all knew he was waived for the purpose, but neither side nor the NHL confirmed it until now?
Seems like they had to get the legal stuff cleared before saying anything. So if they are confirming now, I would the say the Flyers are confident it is done.

I am pretty sure I remember some games with following lines:
Roo-Couts-Voracek
Farabee-Hayes-TK
...
I think JVR was demoted to line 3 and 4 down the season. - PT21
Certainly were times he played with Hayes that season but the lion's share of his production came w/ Coots. |

Hayes was an all star under Torts.
Laine put up a ppg his only full season under Torts.
ryjo put up 134 points in 184 games in his 2 full season with torts.
tony d was always flawed with or without torts. - hello it's me 2050
Hayes was an Allstar because the NHL automatically awards one to each team. The fact that he was an allstar says a lot about what our Roster was. Hayes best season with the team was 54 points. Huge All Star material right there.

Ok now with 4 million cleared, bring on the rumors....
Risto and Laughton to Edmonton for Nurse. Go!

I don't know how it works. There are two teams who this affects cap wise. Johansen has 60 days to appeal. If both teams use the cap space gained and then Johansen wins the appeal, then what happens?

not done as ryjo has 60 days from the day the contract was terminated to file an appeal.
my guess is he will wait until day 59/60 to file. Not sure what date that would be. |

LOL Hayes was having a career offensive season at the time he was named an All Star. His offensive production didn't go down until Tortorella decided to screw with him and demoted him down in lines and ice time. Instead of keeping it going and keeping his trade value higher, Tortorella devalued his own player asset.

Thanks for that.
How do you know though from that image that the lion's production came from playing w/ Couts? First, that is playing time (I assume) not linemates/point. And if the former, seems like he played with Couts 37 odd % and with Hayes 28%. Not that different.
Also, are you suggesting that playing with Couts is the reason he took off that season? Are the stats that asymmetric?

Frost won't be a late bloomer. If he does he will have bloomed when the overwhelming number of non elite NHL players bloom. He has played two full NHL season and 229 overall. As I posted earlier, Frost has a career high 46 points after 229 games played. Konecny has 49 after 233 points. If Frost is going to take a jump, this is the year to expect it.
Yeo's methods were archaic and awful. It is the equivalent of making a player play with his oft hand stick. He and the Flyers have generally had their development strategies completely backwards. Hopefully they don't do that with Michkov.
Tortorella's overall handling of Frost has been horrendous. He has deterred Frost's development with his biases. Frost has played the best when Tortorella has stopped jacking with him and left him alone. That is the fact that you are ignorant to. - MJL
IMO what you will not accept is that the fact that Frost was benched and was moved around the lineup was 100% on Frost and his lack of consistency. Once Frost and Torts got on the same page Torts left him alone, that is until the last two weeks of the season when it was clear Frost's game had taken a swoon. |

none of those lines indicate he is being demoted for his defensive play. there were other viable options, and he certainly wouldn't be put on defensive/checking lines if his defensive play was lapsing.

LMAO Frost the season before led the team in ES scoring for a 50 game stretch. Then after two games the next season, TWO, Tortorella decided to bench and he sat out how many games? JD, I know you lack hockey knowledge but do you have any common sense? Any whatsoever? Other players have had the same inconsistencies. Played poorly defensively for large chunks of the season and were not treated the same as Frost was. What you will not accept is that there is fantasy and there is reality. Your opinion is fantasy. |
