Trust me, I'm definitely advocating for a micro wedding. I already told her most of the budget has to go to Leafs box tickets for HB guys at the bachelor party. - Zezel

A little food for thought ...
In hindsight of course Sid was great value but did he really give some kind of big discount?
In 2012 he signed 8.7M x 12 years. The Cap was 60M in 12-13 so he's about 14.5% of the Cap. Pretty comparable to todays top 5 paid guys.
Also, there were a lot of questions about his health that summer. Two big concussions in 2011 ended that season early then he comes back and gets concussed again in 11-12 season and only plays 20ish games. I remember an interview with him on CBC in 2012 where he talked about worries of not playing anymore.
All that poop had to play a part into how he viewed his contract and his career. |

So even if we agree it was only the last 2 years he was underpaid (some may say 3) that's one third of his contract where he was underpaid or overperformed depending on which way you want to view it. I'm not surprised he got some make up money now in his new deal and I'm not too upset about it either really.
Curious if you think Marner or Matthews have been overpaid in any of their past or current salaries?
I'd ask about JT but I don't think anyone is going to not agree he is overpaid. lol
I keep hoping someone will set the 'take a bit less' bar in Toronto from that small group of the elite / top level players............feels like I'm still waiting and I'll be more apt to have success if I shift to just not overpaying or not overpaying by TOO much.
- Cush29
An unpopular opinion but yes i thought both marner and matthews were overpaid when they signed and through most of their first big contracts.
But it what it is, nothing we can do.
Id love to see marner pull a crosby and sign for the same or less than his current salary but thats never gonna happen. |

Yeah when Sid signed that it was 4.35 million mcdoubles. Now that buys 2.4 million mcdoubles. But you were only allowed way less mcdoubles back then. |

Knies, Matthews, Domi
Nylander, Tavares, Marner
Patches, NEW 3C, Jarnkrok
Dewar/McMann, Lorentz, Holmberg/Reaves
Rielly, Tanev
Beniot, McCabe
OEL, Hankanpaa
Webber, Timmins
Woll
Stolarz
Lily, Robertson and Kampf + for a new 3C = $6.5M - $1M currently over.
$5.5M for a new 3C that can replace Tavares next season at 2C sounds (frank)ing lovely to me.

The heart of all reasons.
Had a band practice today, been up since 4am because I had to kill time at my mom’s in Strathroy (my home town) because I caught a lift with my guitarist who had to work for the day first (I’m not allowed to drive due to a medical suspension).
My mom knows me, she had a six pack waiting in the fridge for me |

The entire core took less money in our competitive years, Malkin, Sid, Fleury, Letang, etc. I like when teams do that. It enabled us to trade for guys like Kessel to build Cup winners.
The weird thing is when you know your team isnt winning a Cup/building a Cup winning team, you still take a good discount. That's loyalty like you dont see much in sports anymore.
Or its because Dubas told him he needs the money for Marner. - SuperHenderson13
You idiots traded for Kessel?
What a dumb move.
Everyone knows you can't win a cup with that guy. |
