Mystery of the missing Os solved. OreOs are the new helmet sponsor - Canada Cup
Are you sure? I thought it was being saved for when Auston scores his 100th goal of the season.

Marner to me just seems to have the far more suitable skillset for centre. I can respect if I'm in the minority with that thought but the elite vision and more reliable defensive play does it for me. - joel878
I suspect Marner would get destroyed in the faceoff circle.

I like it.
We've had two Gills, a McGill and a Gilmour.
Adding a Gillies will complete the set. |

Canada is really weird about centres.
It's considered the most important position at forward, and as such, the best kids from the age of 6 onward are put at centre. No exceptions.
Take a look at our Canada Cup, Olympic and World Cup teams - our entire forward groups will be made up of centres.
Think of all the elite wingers in the NHL - a much lower percentage of Canadians that you would expect.
Hell, name the truly elite Canadian wingers of the past 40 years - it would be hard to name a dozen. Kariya, Heatley, Marner, Hull ... and now I'm drawing a blank.
So we have an unconscious bias against wingers - there's an assumption that if they are playing a wing in the NHL, it's because they aren't good enough to play centre, and they certainly aren't good enough defensively to play centre. - Atomic Wedgie
I never thought about it before, but now that you mention it, when I think of the best wingers in the game, many of them are not Canadian, but a ton of the best centers are.
I just tried Googling it and even tried some Duck Duck Go, and I kept getting lists of the best Canadian players, the best wingers, but nothing for lazy people like me to put it all together and have the best wingers who are Canadians only.

Because if Murray has a decent camp and gets claimed then they sign this guy as depth. They don’t want Hildabeast in the NHL yet.
Pretty possible Murray gets claimed if he shows he healthy and plays decent.

I know right.
Unless Murray get claimed they have a veteran presence in net for the Marlies. |

Due to his weak forearms?
This place has a guy for that (as well as weak necks) but if Mitchy goes to that trainer he best not wear a big ass hat!

Willy vs Mitchy as Centre
Willy:
- stronger skater
- better decisions with puck in dzone (see GA in dzone)
- he moves through neutral zone with puck better
- more of a threat to both shoot and pass as a centre
- he is much much stronger which is needed of a centre especially on the defensive zone
- better on draw
Both players are equal defensively 5v5 and with Marner struggling sometimes to read coverage and adjust 5v5 - it’s a better choice.
That said I don’t like it at all for Leafs. I think JT is a much better option at 2C until they find another. If they are looking to move Kampf and that’s why - bandaid for now with Holmberg/Lorentz/Dewar at 3C/4C.
I think last seasons numbers for JT made Leafs Nation panic a bit - he will put up 65-70pts at least this season. Still a good player….but a plan is needed to replace him at 2C absolutely.
Also, as Canadians we are correct. It is the most important position of the forward group. The responsibility in all 3 zones is so much greater than a wingers. Not even close. |

I dont get the willy/Marner to C thing and JT to wing/3C
JT is still fine. 2c production, imo better option than either of the other 2 for C - senstroll
I know Tree/Keefe gave it a quick look last year but as far as I can tell this "roomer" is a really just one guy (Jonas Spiegel) pumping his opinion. He's been on a world tour on sports media trumpeting his opinion that 88 should be a C and now everyone has converted that into a sure thing.
Maybe Berube gives it a go ...maybe he doesn't ...but this has taken on a life of its own for no reason. |

Apparently he is. He’s feeling really good apparently too, but there’s still a lot of questions about his game obviously.
Could be why Gillies got the PTO come to think of it…Raanta decided to go back to Europe a couple days ago and if say Stolarz got hurt, would you like the leafs rolling with Woll and Murray? I have no idea what to think about something like that. |

He hasn't played any significant C since he was 15 ...ain't happening.
When Hunter/Leafs drafted him in Toronto they actually said they saw him as a C but it never happened. They invested no time in it for 9 seasons ....it ain't happening now.
Willie played C until he was 19 and still gets some looks there once in a while. That said ...I don't see it happening or sticking. I think we either see Domi shifted back there or they load up the wings and Holmberg gets a look at C. |

Glad hes healthy and he's much cheaper now. When he was healthy is first year with the leafs, he did play well. Imo.
Good to have depth.
Is gillies better than murray?
I honestly cannot recall seeing him play. |
