Wow, Rogers just bought out Bell’s stake in MLSE - Canada Cup
I’m not surprised one bit. Willing to bet TSN ends up saying goodbye to leaf games now. |

This officially closes the slim possibility of an amicable split, with one entity getting a second Toronto franchise. - Atomic Wedgie
I wouldn’t expect anymore Canadian teams anytime soon. Especially with Tavares up against the CRA in court. If the CRA wins this then the bonuses players receive while living elsewhere on July 1st will disappear. If that were to happen someone like Matthews would have to make around $16 mill a year to get the same take home if it all falls under the taxation in Ontario and he can’t just make league minimum while getting the rest while living in Arizona. |

In other big financial news, sale of house finalized this morning. Got the offer after 5 days on market and had to wait till yesterday for house inspection. Time to buy my Pavel Bure jersey. |

cute end in that Ek thing:
"The teams would share the building and the new team would televise some of their games on Leafs TV and the new team would sell the building by offering up around 30% of the tickets at a very reasonable price of around $10 apiece."

Training camp starts. We'll see what happens with Swayman. I bet the Beantown folks regret letting Ullmark go. They have zero leverage now.
No Stamkos in Lightning camp. This is gonna feel weird.
Between the two teams (Tampa and Toronto), the player I am most interested in watching is Cowan. |

CRA winning doesn’t necessarily mean all those bonuses are gone. The case is about the specifics of JT’s bonus and how big it was relative to his salary. The decision will help define what’s acceptable and what’s not. Smart accountants will find ways to work around things. Never underestimate the ability of rich people to reduce their taxes |

Thanks. I’ll take a look. I’m not too worried about the ferry since we really don’t have to go very far very often. We’re really old. |

The league should change their cap to be based simply off of take home money. They don’t want to tho because that would give Canadian teams an advantage.
They’re after taxation with JT’s full signing bonus as well. Over $17 million leaving him owing $6.8 million plus $1.2 million in interest. The CRA is after everything. Which unfortunately means that yes, the player’s accountants will constantly look for ways to get around the taxes but I also think now the CRA will be focusing a lot harder on this so players don’t get to play for a Canadian team, get paid by a Canadian team, but not have to pay Canadian taxes. |

Don’t blame you, never the most fun in any way. Glad it was relatively easy for you but yeah, now it’s just about getting settled at the new place. |

That may be true, but I think you are overlooking an even more important point:
Ek pulled the entire thing out of his arse. |

Weird stat:
Foligno named Chicago's 35th captain.
If I'm doing the math right, Matthews is the Leafs' 19th captain (note: that's for the team as the Toronto Maple Leafs, starting in the 1927-28 season).
