In Montreal, it seems that everyone is leaving money on the table to build a solid team, but an unexpected player is also willing to do so to renew his contract.

This player is Joel Armia, who Martin St-Louis is a big fan of. The coach has repeated several times last year how much he appreciates the Finnish player and what he brings to the team.

We all knew his talent, but his level of commitment had been an issue in recent years. However, with 17 goals in 66 games, we cannot overlook his impressive season and, especially, his character in bouncing back after a stint in Laval.

"I could easily see Joel Armia leaving money on the table to stay in Montreal."

Joel Armia on a third line with a decent salary is quite a player for a team. Moreover, he showed up at the Canadiens' golf tournament alongside his compatriot Patrik Laine.

Whether we like it or not, Joel Armia loves Montreal and loves playing for the Canadiens and Martin St-Louis. So don't be surprised if he signs a discounted contract extension to stay with the team at the end of the season or during the season, as he will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Yes, he did have a good second half. But a half a year out of his overpriced contract shouldn't get in the way of a more talented and consistent player on an ELC.

oddly I think Reinbacher would stand out more in an NHL context, as he isn't a flashy player like Mailloux or Hutson can be. he should've taken a few more risks during those rookie games but he's pretty solid defensively and doesn't look prone to making a lot of mistakes.

At some point you gotta know when to let go. Replace him with a cheaper younger player.

I think Reinbacher's ceilng is to become a Ryan Suter type of defenseman. Which would be fantastic.

It will be nice to follow him in Laval when the season begins. Mailloux made big strides last year in the AHL, no reason Reinbacher cannot do the same.

Nobody would've believed at the beginning of last year that Struble would play 50+ NHL games. Defensemen who make few mistakes, even if they're not very good offensively, can still be useful NHL players.

Like Dvorak, he is not a terrible player. I just feel that the Habs have too many of these guys right now, throw Anderson and Gallagher (no matter how much I love that guy) onto the pile (and, to a lesser extent, Evans).

At some point you have to move on...

I only agree, because I think the Anderson and Gallagher contracts cannot be moved. If they were not around, a short-term cheap extension by Armia would not be a bad idea.

Anderson and Gallagher are now on the 4th line, doesn't really matter with who you want on your top9 going forward.
whenever Habs need the cap space they'll be gone, probably via buy out.

Last season's version of Joel Armia is a very useful player.

If he continues playing that way and is willing to take a pay cut to stay, I think it makes sense to consider it.

Of course that's a pretty big "IF" considering how inconsistant he's been since he arrived here.

I don't know if St-Louis will dare putting these two together.

They seem like an absolutely terrible fit together.

Then again.... Anderson doesn't really seem to "fit" with anyone so....

Armia worked with a sports psychologist last season and it seemed to do wonders.

The toolset was always present, if he found a way to get his head in the right place and perform, we'd be fools to just hang on to the bad times.

He wouldn't be the first guy to figure things out in his life at 30 years old.

This being said, his performances this season will dictate his future. I wish him and us the best.
