He had NHL offers.
Literally just said it. - Santo_44
They must have been incredible too.
If you think Alex Nylander is anything more than a longshot to become a good NHL player at this point, I don't know what to tell you.

He intrigues me a lot.
Has the Willy shot, is a good skater and has the tools.
I mean 11 goals in 20 something games is not easy.
I can already tell you now Cowan will look better than him, and will be better offensively.
Like Berube said Cowan needs to prove he doesn't have the junior habits....if he does that then Robertson will have a new home. - Santo_44
We'll see. Cowan is good. Does he have a man's shot yet? I don't mean that as some random criticism - I mean that I watched him in the first couple games against Montreal in the rookie camp and he moves well, he passes well, he has good instincts, but I wasn't really impressed by his shot. One thing that does set Robertson apart is his shot. He is also a decent competitor. Something that set Alex Nylander apart when he was drafted 8th overall was his offensive toolkit - including vision and shot.
Cowan is 19 years old and while someone like Kloke on the Athletic says it's a disservice to not include him on the roster this year - I point out that he was a 28th overall pick and looks great standing in a barren cupboard with little to compare against. If he's ready, he's ready. If he isn't, let him to crush the OHL again.

He got NHL deals. Its not hard to understand.
And why can't he? "I don't know what to tell you"
If you ever think Caufiled will be a 40 goal scorer I don't know what to tell you. |

I watched Cowan in the rookie games vs the Habs.
I thought he's the one who stood out the most for the Leafs, he's not blowing past anyone with speed or skill but he feels like a pretty complete player and was a notch above the other rookies on his team.
I don't think he's obviously making the team, in fact the odds are probably against him, but he certainly has a chance. - Scabeh
agreed...!
I remember that I posted this after the game:

Well thats exactly it...if he is ready he will make it.
He can follow Wyatt Johnstons path if he is.
I see 3 players challenging for the same spot.
Maybe if they all impress then they find a way to get 2 of them on the roster.
Jarnkrok, Robertson and Holmberg are players that their jobs can be stolen, and traded. |

He's bounced around the league for a while now. Maybe he figures it out but it still seems like a longshot at best.
There's a reason he only has a AHL contract.... - Scabeh
It's absolutely a longshot. Anytime you go after a former high first round pick that was a bust and you think you can fix him, the odds are slim.
In the case of Alex Nylander I am very curious to see what he brings to the table and if he recognizes that this is sort of his NHL Waterloo - you're either headed back to Sweden to carve out a niche in the SHL, or you can show up here, but you have to work. There are thousands and thousands of ridiculously talented hockey players around the world who aren't capable of playing in the NHL because they don't have the dedication to it. There are even more who have the dedication and don't have an iota of the talent and skill that most NHL players do. For a guy like Nylander - he has that skill. But he will have to show that he can be going when the going gets tough, so to speak.

Group 2 is highlighting the competition at camp.
Patches-Holmberg-Grebenkin
I think they are giving the kid a shot at a path to a spot if he works for it.
Over 200 pounds and scrappy, berube player.
Looking forward to seeing him in some pre season games. |
