I really don't know what to expect this year. More of what we saw last year, I suspect. You can't compete in the league without talented depth down the middle. |

looking forward to the new look powerplay. will be a key part of this team's success this season. Bill any insight to what suggestions Sharp and Leclaire may offered Rocky? |

I heard this froma friend who heard it from a friend:
The players and coaches on the bench will loudly yell "SHOOT" to encourage getting more pucks on net
Also heard that players and coaches will also yell "HIT HIM" and "insert name SUCKS"
Take it for what it is worth |

More of the same. They will catch teams off guard with their effort level early in the season. The lack of talent will slowly reveal itself as the season progresses. They will be a bubble playoff team and finish 10-16 in the league.

Take it for what it is worth - corduroy Actually I agree with the "SHOOT" part when they are on the PP. Get pucks to the net which is more than they usually do which is nothing with genius Rocky running the PP.

Is it possible that being "old" is why we are so frustrated with how this organization is run?
One of my earliest memories as a kid was the 75 cup championship
To see how far the team has fallen from the 70s, and 80s is heartbreaking.
Realistically outside of the 09/10 season the team has been rather irrelevant since they lost to the bolts in the ECF of the 03/04 season. That is a long tiime |

I'm probably the jinx in this whole mess. Attended my first Flyers game in the spring of 1976 (a playoff game against the Laffs). They haven't won a Cup since I started going to games. Had season tickets from 1985-2005. They came close many times in that 20 year period, but couldn't get over the hump. They really have been pretty bad for 20 years now with the exception of 2008 (ECF) and 2010. The last 12 years have been abominable. |

now that teams know to expect them to out hard, I am not so sure they catch anyone by surprise.
some other teams that played bad last year like buff wings sens devils I would think would want to come out flying |

This is so accurate. The Flyers inability to operate appropriately in a cap world has slowly been highlighted over the last 10-15 years.
Watching the same story playout 40+ times is tiresome. The story has gotten less and less entertaining over the last decade. In fact, it has turned into a low budget horror story.
I was not alive for the cup years either. So I have nothing to fall back on.

I hope you are right. They might finish 6-10 in your scenario.

I think they take a step back, and maybe a major step back pending their defense and goaltending. I'm picking them to finish last in the Metro and perhaps last in the East. Columbus is going to be dedicating this season to Johnny Hockey and I think that will move them up in the standings, and that's the only team I thought that the Flyers would finish ahead of in the Metro. Of course, I picked them to finish last a year ago too, so I dunno... I'm just hoping for some excitement and growth from the youngsters. |

Most teams do not raise the compete level until mid-season or later. The Flyers playing at playoff level intensity in the first third or half of the season will undoubtedly win them extra games.

Master technician and strategist John Tortorella getting his team in tip top shape before the season even starts. While the rest of the dopey teams ramp up during the season, the Flyers gold standard has them ready from the first puck drop.
I’m sure the wheels won’t start to fall off again once the season starts to actually matter. |

Coots was on “Snow the Goalie” yesterday and made the point that as the season goes on the games get tougher and tighter. Early on if a team can outwork the other team then they’ve got a great opportunity to win. |

That is why they drafted Luchanko. They recognize they are weak down the middle at every level in the organization and they are trying to address it. |
