I don't think the Flyers can rely on catching teams off guard this year. I think they take a step back, and maybe a major step back pending their defense and goaltending. I'm picking them to finish last in the Metro and perhaps last in the East. Columbus is going to be dedicating this season to Johnny Hockey and I think that will move them up in the standings, and that's the only team I thought that the Flyers would finish ahead of in the Metro. Of course, I picked them to finish last a year ago too, so I dunno... I'm just hoping for some excitement and growth from the youngsters. - Phillywhiteout
The Flyers will not finish below Columbus. I also think the Flyers will be better than the Islanders and around the same level as the Penguins and Capitals. They will compete for a playoff spot and this time might make it. I really look for the PP to improve. |

Hopefully there is some growth from the young group. They have a group in the top 9 that can play anywhere from the top line to the 3rd line. Hopefully that competition brings out that increase in performance. I mean guys like Brink, Foerster, Cates and even Tippet are just scratching the surface. Guys like Farabee and Frost need to show a more consistent year…there are nights where you see what they are capable of and then there are nights that it’s crickets….you don’t even know of they played…
On D, another step by York and a healthy Drysdale would really change how some view the Flyers back end. I also hope the Young guys like Andrae and MacDonald are part of this years team at some point. We got a surprise in Zamula last year and in Brink….are there some surprises this year? Let’s hope so. |

Coots was on “Snow the Goalie” yesterday and made the point that as the season goes on the games get tougher and tighter. Early on if a team can outwork the other team then they’ve got a great opportunity to win. - landros 2
Yea, there was no catching teams by surprise. Torts has been around forever, all the coaches and players know what to expect when playing a team coached by him |

It’s not a stretch to think the PP will be better….I don’t think it could be worse. |

dont disagree to an extent. now teams are aware the flyers will come out and give their all. One would think those teams now will be more prepared when they play them early. |

I don't think so. I only see these teams as maybe worse then philly.
Columbus
Calgary
Maybe Anaheim
Maybe San Jose
Some of these teams have good young talent. I think Philly will struggle this year. And honestly they need to be picking in the top 5 this year and next. That would allow at least a chance to grab possibly some top end centers(Hagens, McKenna)

That is why they drafted Luchanko. They recognize they are weak down the middle at every level in the organization and they are trying to address it. - jd250
That’s a start…I must admit I liked his games last weekend. I look forward to watching some Guelph games this year along with some London games. |

what is your definition of compete for a playoff spot? Pens will be better this year.
not that it is any great shakes as more than half the fn team make it. |

I do not see them making the playoffs. The defense and goaltending are worse. At least on paper. Michkov improves the forward group. But by how much?
I truly see the season playing out like last year. Only earlier elimination.

Going into camp, here is how I see the state of the team.
POSITIVES
The addition of Michkov
Drysdale being healthy to start the season
Another year of experience for younger players like Foerster and York
NEGATIVES
Torts is gonna be Torts and history shows that the longer he is with a team the more he wears on them
The goaltending is a question mark at best
Rocky still runs the pp
No legit 1C and a major lack of quality depth at the position
No legit 1D and a lot of question marks after Sanheim & York
“Best” case, they finish right around where they were last year or a hair better, 86-91 points, but still miss the playoffs and pick in the 11-15 range
“Worst” case, the goaltending falters, a few key players get injured and the team quits on Torts leading to a 70-75 point finish and a pick, sans lottery luck, in the 4-7 range
My prediction: 80 points, 6th or 7th in the East, 13th or 14th in the conference and a pick in the 7-9 range. |

I would be surprised if he makes it out of camp healthy, this may end up going down as one of the worst trades in history. Imagine Gauthier wins the Calder haha |

Loaded up with what?
Is PLB the answer to their issues and the perfect replacement for Oshie who is out for the season?
They have good goalies, probably will be better than the Flyers goalies

Sucks that the draft pick they got from Columbus is a second rounder.
The could potentially could have 3 decent second round pics with the Columbus and Ducks picks.
Maybe Db can work some magic and use those picks to trade up.

That would be good for the Flyers but Columbus is going to be pretty putrid. They'll be in the running for the #1 pick.

Wasn't their goalie Elvis trying to get his contract terminated? I thought I read somewhere that he wanted out.

I definitely don’t think things are as bad as “fans” make this situation out to be. They’re doing as asked, which is bring in picks. Briere could have brought in more, no question, but here we are. Cutter Gauthier being traded is the only thing that hurts. We’d be an improved team up front with Gauthier and Michkov on the team. |
