Nashville got Stammer, Marchy and Skjei
Columbus got Monahan
New Jersey got Pesce
Sharks got Toffoli
Seattle got Montour and Stephenson
Washington got Roy
Outside Stammer, none are super high end, but I think star quality for most. I think Homie has a valid point here. Big stars, from Johnny Gaudreau to Scott Stevens, big names have signed for small market teams in the past. - QuinnFan
I wouldn't call Nashville, New Jersey or Washington a small market.
Was Gaudreau the last "Big Star" to sign in small market? That was 2 years ago. These things dont happen all the time like its made to seem here.

31 other teams didnt trade for them. I have a hard time believing they were available. - DirtyDan
Are you at all disappointed that Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen, and Helenius are all here and there's only a viable path to the NHL in the next year for 1 or 2? Happy with Savoie for a 3C, after drafting all those guys?
This is still a prospect group that requires trades. Kev's had assets for years, just hasn't been able to make moves. Can't give him a pass every year, imo.

If that's the case, then most teams are large market, so guess it's how you define it. IMO, Toronto, Boston, New York, LA, Detroit and Montreal are the large market team examples. I think any of those three fall pretty short of there. I'd say Nashville is pretty similar to Buffalo tbh. |

Never said I was happy. But whos available to make those 2 or 3 or 4 for 1 trades? Ehlers aint worth it. And he was about the only real option "available" for the top 6. (Available in quotations cause Jets just doing the same thing they did with Helly)

Sure in the sense it doesnt get much coverage.
Players, fans love it. Its not a city that is complained about going to unlike a Columbus or Ottawa or Buffalo. They just had 3 major names go there. That doesnt happen in "small market" cities. |

Didn't we get Ehrhoff to sign, Regehr to waive his NMC and Leino to sign the same season? Obviously 2/3 didn't work out, but Leino was the hot commodity forward, Ehrhoff the biggest ticket of the offseason and Regehr, the one that actually played well for us, had a full NMC.
Sorry if I'm misquoting timeline here, but believe that was all in pretty short order. Either way, our weather was bad a decade ago too lol. |

In all fairness, Florida, Colorado, Vegas, and Carolina are all very good teams that have signed good players/gotten NMCs waived. Think market and standing are probably on a level playing field there. Guess the point I'm trying to make is that if we were decent, we'd have a chance. Being that we aren't, we don't. |

Well, we went from "everyone wants these kids and I won't move them" to "No one wants to trade with me" for 2 straight years. If you want to draft that way, I don't accept the excuse.

but that's different
just like von miller signing with a small market
the franchise stinks under pegula and his penny pinching tactics with this franchise and that is why we have the 13 years without a playoff series and why he has never won a playoff series

this is correct
the tie will also go to a team without state taxes but the amount of sabres that retired and stayed in buffalo proves that pegula and adams could have sold playing here if they had a top 16 franchise instead of a bottom 5 franchise
seems the owner and gm seem to care more about the feelings of the okposos, girgens and josts instead of the desire to ice a team to compete for the cup |

Havent we sucked since? Why you guys expect players to come here is beyond me.
KA is probably the worst and shouldn't even be a GM but hes also had a number of trades voided by players he was trying to acquire.
They've constructed a team that has the ability to make the playoffs IMO. Just get there and change the fvckin view on the franchise and maybe those trades wont be voided when the next GM is trying to make em. |

No, 100%. Was more just saying that league standing probably matters much more than city size. Any of those other small market teams look more attractive than us outside Columbus. |

Maybe Nashville just blew it too. Doesn't change the fact those guys came, that's all. Not trying to beat ya up about it, just disagree on this one.
And that is what KA has said. Not sure I believe him fully. But half the league is comprised of players who have no control over this, so it's a flimsy excuse. |

I don't think people want to discuss what next year's team look like, but it's interesting to project.
