Maybe an easy chance to play some games in the NHL but to be in the NHL full time. Not unless there is a significant injury to Ersson or Fedotov. - MJL
He would need to make the most of the chance for sure. But I do not feel like the Flyers are in love with Ersson or Fedotov. If Kolosov played games for the Flyers and shined he would get regular NHL minutes sooner than later.

3 million next season won't be a bad number with the Salary cap going up. The bigger question is what do they do with Laughton. - WhiskeyMan
it is a bad number for a 4th line player for a non playoff team. He will also get some term so that is a double whammy.
so the cap goes up and yeah lest waste those dollars on a 4th line guy. that is the flyers way. |

There is no such clause that can be installed in an ELC or any SPC that I'm aware of. Once a player is signed, it is the teams control on where the player plays, who he is loaned to, etc. - MJL
well mm has such clause he cant be sent to the ahl or he can go back to russia. |

cant fall in love with players someone once said. - hello it's me 2050
I was excited about him when he came out of college. He did show something but has been meh since then.
He did miss a lot of time last season, so hopefully he turns it around.

In my mind if I see that he is not improving, maybe try to trade him for something.
But knowing the Flyers, they will still resign him, maybe a 1 year prove myself deal.
If Torts comes back as the coach he definitely, he is a Torts favorite I believe. - WhiskeyMan
The Flyers have made a mistake in handling Cates. They put the needs of the team over what is best for a young player. Cates should've never been moved to center. He showed a lot of promise as a F1 winger on the forecheck and in crashing the net. He does not have the skill to play center offensively. Now his offense has dried up. They took a player who showed strong promise as a 3rd line winger and hurt his development.

They sign an unproven player with little NHL experience to a 3.25M cap hit and you don't think they are "in love" with Fedotov?

He is solid nhl player. He has 2 seasons under his belt now. He was hurt last year in the first half. Played much better in the 2nd half.
Unless he just progresses substantially you cant keep committing to these type of players long term. They have too many of them currently. |

They wanted to bring him over for sure. I think Hart's departure forced there hand a little. We will see how much rope he gets if he struggles. No Kolosov extends the length of that rope in my opinion. Hopefully they do not need any rope at all.

Trust me, they're " in love" with Fedotov. They're also very high on Ersson. Hart having to leave was a blessing in disguise for the Flyers. Kept them from doing the inevitable stupid move.

Agree.
Do you think they would have received bad PR if they did not sign Fedotov?
Maybe needed a nice story after the Cutter bombshell.

- he actually could have competed for an NHL job. There are no guarantees with their starting goalies this year. Kolosov is not going to find too many more better options for him than coming to the Flyers in camp this season. - 26912 PP
I agree. If Fedotov really struggles he could be waived and sent to the AHL, cause probably he wouldn't be claimed at that salary. And then Kolosov comes up to play some NHL games and gets a big raise. Or they could carry three goalies for a while.
The fact that Kolosov isn't on a KHL team and is getting paid zero rather than being in the AHL at least getting something is actually baffling.

Only two years but at double the AAV a lot of people were expecting, myself included.

I think Fed had Briere over a barrel, with the Flyers sinking like a stone in the playoff race after Briere announcing that he was all in on the team making the playoffs last year, and used his leverage to the fullest.
Arrived on 3/29 and played his first game on 4/1. Briere was counting on Fed to save the season, what a dumb, panicked move before reality set in kind of like what Fletcher did with Risto.
Not saying that Fed can't, with experience, be a quality NHL goaltender but Briere expected him to come in cold, from the KHL, and lead the team to the playoffs and is now committed. Briere can not be seen to be wrong on this after all the time and resources.

Good points but Fedotov wasn't re-signed until after the season on 4/23.

It's possible Fedotov had to put some of his NHL contract money towards buying himself out of his KHL team. |

so you don't think they had a deal worked out prior to that? or he just came over for the hell of it for a month or so. |

What I find interesting about the Kosolov situation is the 3 top goalies in the organization would be out of contract next season (certainly that changes without Kosolov reporting). All 3 have the opportunity to seize the #1 goalie spot over the next 2 seasons. I'm not sure Kosolov had a clearer path to being an NHL goalie quicker then with the Flyers current situation. Maybe playing in the NHL is not a priority. |

I have no idea why Petersen is still around. A goalie in a local beer league would probably fare better than him. - Phillywhiteout
Why wouldnt he be around. we took him as a cap dump and hes been so bad that he cant be traded. Theres nowhere for him to go. Flyers have to wait out the final year of his deal. This guy has shown that his career in the NHL is done which is disappointing because he was such a promising goalie back in LA.

Possible, 2.5M of his yearly salary is paid as a signing bonus
