Most every trade doesn't have GM's negotiating with prospects. Where do you guys read this STUFF? Rather than assuming weird things - may I suggest just sit back and enjoy the camp. - sufi-judge
hahaha he's not assuming anything wrong. It was fairly well known that Winnipeg weren't guaranteeing him a roster spot so he wanted out. It was a trade made because he was supposedly more NHL read than Yager, another 14th overall pick, who is a year younger. Not only that, but this trade wasn't made unless Dubas knew that he would sign an ELC with the Pens(aka negotiating).
Some analysts, who cover the Pens, are now doing damage control saying that if he starts in the season in the AHL the trade shouldn't be considered a bust or failure. Now, why would they be doing that at all if there was nothing to rest of what I just said? What cave have you been in?
Also, why would talking about any of this signify that camp, or preseason, isn't being enjoyed? |

Much more accurate to go by metropolitan statistical areas rather than city proper population and the Pittsburgh metro area is much bigger than the Winnipeg metro area. The Winnipeg metro area is basically just the city pop of 850k. The Pitt metro area is like 2.5 mil |

McGroatry’s whole thing was going to a team where he could play now, but he just doesn’t really look ready. Interesting to see what happens here and I wonder what the negotiations with Dubas were. If he was promised a spot this only ends badly. - Victoro311
McGroarty's got an xGF of 69% through 27 minutes of action at 5v5
16-8 scoring chances diff
6-2 high danger diff
Not bad, not bad. |

Lines today. I'm not sure if the third line is in the right spots:
DOC-Sid-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Rackell
Hayes-Eller-Glass
Beau-Lizotte-Accairi
McGroarty-Ponomarov-Pulj
So they may play both Eller and Hayes on the third.
DOC back to the first line. - Tojo.
With all of the other riff raff we have on the roster, I don't know why we wouldn't be signing Kessel to a PTO. Not what he once was but we do have a spot open on the PP and looking at the roster, there is a glaring lack of offensive skill.
I actually wouldn't be shocked if Hayes starts the year on Sid's left side. That was one of Dubas biggest splashes this offseason, no better way to make that move look good. Pretty bad situation when even at 37 years old we are still relying on Sid to carry bottom six players like Hayes or Doc on the top line. |

If Grzelcyk can hang with Letang that would be huge. At that we can just kinda be done with Graves.
Point on Grzelcyk: he’s two years removed from being an analytics darling. There might be something to reclaim here - Victoro311
The addition of Grzelcyk should light a fire under Graves' ass.

Not necessarily. Could be really comfortable, complacent and care free with a 4.5 mill per year contract until 2028...

For the RH side, I'm hoping for a bounce back from Rackell. Supposedly he had shoulder issues last year and is healed now. He's a pretty good PP player.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think Malkin is the bigger problem now. He doesn't seem to be much of a threat anymore.

Glad you posted this.... I watched both games. His first game wasn't bad. A few flashes. Looked like he was thinking more than reacting. Adjusting to the speed will take some time. Plus.... They were playing against Buffalo's starting roster. The Pens iced an AHL team....or less.
From the 2nd period on in last nights game, that first line was good. He looked much more comfortable. There's nothing to worry about ATM. I think he's going to lose out because of waivers. Starting the AHL on the first line is better than getting 4th line minutes with the big club.

Doing that against AHLers while not bringing the elements that were advertised and not scoring doesn’t really impress me much, and probably impresses the coaching staff less.
Again, this is why he needs to get time with the top 6 guys during preseason. Could look totally different playing with skill, or could continue to be invisible. Either way we need to see |

This is a bad team. Dubas will be trading guys sooner than later.
Graves has three choices:
1) Produce and go to a contender.
2) Play hard and get plenty of ice time here.
3) Be complacent and watch the games in the press box.
I doubt Sullivan will do the third, but that's what needs to happen.

Ultimately it’s likely he gets all this and is doing his best but just isn’t very good/good fit with our top RDs, and that’s kind of an unfixable problem |

Easily fixed by trading our worst player (him) for good players. |

Who are you - the board's new Matlock?
McGroarty (and his agent) felt he is ready for the NHL. Is he?… we'll find out. The Jets have a history of slow walking prospects and McGroarty leveraged going back to Michigan as a bargaining chip to get out. It's a simple business move and the PENS made an offer. Actually, on paper, it appears (right now) to be a coin-flip for both teams. Which is how trades should be.
I believe the player agents and GM's talked before the deal went down. Don't you.

We'll know more when Karlsson returns. Currently Graves is with St Ivany and that's probably where he belongs.
What is Aho, left or right defense? I see he shoots left, but he's paired with Pettersson.
