When I listen to Lorentz and Pacioretty speak, they very much speak like they are a part of the team - like they may be on PTO contracts but they are expecting actual contracts. I find that interesting because I can't think of any other PTOs we've had in the past who thought they were on the team.

ZAR
and to a lesser extent Gregor
But ZAR for sure had a handshake deal...its just so they can work out the cap and give them a number that makes sense
Patches likely has a lets say 1.25M deal, and what needs to be decided is how much will be salary and how much in performance bonuses |

I haven't seen it discussed much here, but who is at fault? Robertson, or Nylanflopder? - Whipper
It's an age old thing done in the NHL - the trailing player pushes the advance player to give him a speed boost - so Robertson was trying to push Nylander, but it looks worse because the puck was moved before Nylander would've even gotten there - push or not.
Jeff O'Neill has repeatedly said that he hated when his teammates did it "for" him because it threw him off balance, didn't give a discernible boost in speed and wasn't helpful in general and he wished that players in the NHL would stop doing it.
No one is at fault, per se - Willy's not expecting it, maybe he is thrown off balance? Robertson is trying to be helpful, but misreads the timing on the play . . .

Sounds like the other Nylander will not be given a contract. |

ZAR, you're right - but I was specifically thinking on Gregor and couldn't recall him ever thinking he had won a job - until the last few days of preseason when it was becoming clear he deserved a job.

But if willie is fine...no big issue. |

Honestly the right thing for him to do is to go to the Marlies - be better than a PPG guy and play good defense - he'll get an NHL contract. He has the skills, the acumen and still has the things they saw in him when he was drafted 8th overall. He needs to show that he is _finally_ that player and that he isn't expected to be rewarded with anything and he probably can get a job. He's a LW/RW, so there's some flexibility. |

New: U.S. junior hockey player Nick Avakyan has been added as a plaintiff to a proposed class-action lawsuit against the NCAA and 10 universities alleging they are violating antitrust laws by preventing anyone who has played a game for a major-junior team from playing NCAA hockey.
Avakyan, 20, plays in the North American Hockey League after playing in parts of three seasons for the WHL’s Tri-City Americans, which cost him his eligibility in the NCAA.
Avakyan and former OHL player Rylan Masterson have argued in a lawsuit filed last month in U.S. District Court that the NCAA and U.S. universities are anticompetitive and violate antitrust laws because of that rule.
Avakyan’s lawyer told me he is asking a judge to grant a preliminary injunction that would allow Avakyan to play NCAA hockey in the 2025-26 season.

Yeah I am not sure about Gregor, I am assuming.
They are just a cap team and need to get down to the last cent sometimes.
I am sure Patches had NHL deals offered.
After Lorentz playoffs I would assume the same. |

I dunno, where do you draw the line. Some Canadian University sports even allow former professionals to play. I don't like it personally
