Agreed. If (and I'm not saying it will happen) they both get sent to Bridgeport the Isles would free up 2.3 mil in cap space. - JimmyP
Engvall I can see going but not Mayfield.

I have to imagine that'd be a real tough sell to Malkin/Ledecky. "Hey I know I just spent millions of your dollars on this/these player(s) but now I think they should be playing for our minor league affiliate" |

Sure it would be difficult and I doubt it will happen. I was just saying that they could free up 2.3 mil if they really wanted to.
Engvall's contract is downright stupid. I hope things go that well for me in my next salary negotiation.

I’m not too worried about Pierre Engvall. It could be worse, it could be Yashin, Dipietro or Ladd |

Yeah we both know that’s not happening(yes, I know you said you weren’t suggesting it). |

Yeah it’s not ideal but 6.5 million with cap going up isn’t preventing them from success. Luckily it’s spread into two players vs 1. I agree that Engvall sucks but they look like they’re willing to eat his salary. The positive is that they brought in two wingers that cost nothing to get.
I believe Mayfield has a better year vs last. I think Roy is a presence. - kindlyrick
Yeah hoping mayfield rebounds. Disagree on that money not being negatively impactful though. Certainly less bad if we can get a couple decent years out of mayfield. Would’ve much rather we turned him into a 2nd rd pick. |

Yeah I mean both guys had awful years so it stands to reason their contracts are bad. But, we saw some sound d by mayfield for a few years. He had a crap year but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was just injured. I believe he’s got more in the tank than last years performance. Time will tell
It appears that Roy wants 110% effort and if not given then you’re outta the lineup. See Engvall (and Bolduc). Dare I say…….battle level 🫣 |

Engvall is pathetic. Having the perfect audition to not be in the opening lineup. Which is fine with me. You’d think he’d be finishing checks and having some sort of a presence. Nope.
Loving how Holmstrom looks. |

Tsyplakov looks like the real deal - PeteM
He’s looking like he may transition to the NHL relatively quickly. I watched some of the first period and a bit of the second, but he had a subtle screen on Horvats PP goal and I saw him drive the net, among a few other good plays. |

Just about to post this, he doesn't look like a khl scrub he makes good plays has vision and is strong on the puck. Top line may be a legit scoring threat all season as they look good. I like the 3rd line as well as fourth I guess we just need to see the 2nd line gel and personally I like tsyplakov there over engvall.
Special teams need to improve if they are gonna be a top team in the metro |

He definitely doesn’t shy away from the physicality that a lot of KHL players do when transitioning to the NHL game. Agree on his vision and skill offensively however he needs to tighten up on the d side of the game and stay away from the give aways. I think it’s a matter of him getting used to how quick the game is and the lack of time you have in the NHL.
He will be a great addition to this team and as everyone has said if he can gel with Nelson and Palms the top two lines are going to be real good. Barzal and Horvat look like they’re ready to tear it up this year and I like our D pairs and we have 4 solid lines. I also agree on the special teams. I feel the PP is going to be better. In the pre season when on the PP everyone on the ice was in motion and the passing was crisp and fast. The PK definitely needs to be better than last year and I think under Roy it will be. I’m looking forward to this year and think the Islanders may surprise a lot of people. Dare I be positive? |

You have every right to be positive. Isles down 0-2 and win 5-2. Barzal with 5 pts. Top 6 is the best it’s been since ‘93
Isles will live and die with special teams. It’s looking like a different PP already. The PK will be better this year. |

The top pp unit is pretty good as long as they keep moving the puck and don't get static....barzal...they actually have a decent 2nd unit but the season to me depends on the pk and holding late leads |

PK can’t be any worse than last year I guess. From Lambert and Houda to Roy and Albelin….infinitely better.
Doug Houda played on the isles back in the day and was like a 6th stay home dman. How he became in charge of special teams is beyond me. |

Coming away from watching him last night. He looked composed. I think he will only get better with more confidence and time. We may actually have a legit Russian forward for a change.

Mayfield is supposedly 100 %, so he has to be better, right?
Anybody know anything about that new Gotham sports thing? Will we need that to watch the Isles? Or will a combination of center ice and ESPN be enough? |

Having Tysplakov behind/in front of the net with his hands is an option the isles hadn’t had. |

The isles are all over teams on their forecheck which creates havoc for the opposition they just need to be able to keep that pace up for 82 games |

Yeah hopefully mayfield bounces back. Engvall is trash. It’s great to see Roy treating him as such. |
