Coming away from watching him last night. He looked composed. I think he will only get better with more confidence and time. We may actually have a legit Russian forward for a change.
- Nfdbulldawg

Yeah I always get pumped for these Russian players. Be great to hit on one for once.

What stands out to me, is how comfortable he looks out there with limited communication ability with his linemates. It’s also nice to have a playmaker near the net. I think he’s a legit great pick up

Skate, Pass, Shoot, and Score is the universal language of any hockey player. I think he is legit as well. It will be interesting to see what his ceiling is this year.

You’re finally putting a legit passer with Nelson and Palmieri both of whom quietly put up pts. I think this line is going to have big success

Engvall on waivers. I believe he still counts against the cap, unless he’s somehow claimed (Dubas?)

Love it but nobody is claiming him. He still counts against the cap not sure if there’s any savings if he actually gets sent down? Love the message from Roy. Fasching and Foudy also waived.

Pierre Engvall loses his job; NY Islanders place forward and six others on waivers
Headline is a step in the right direction for this team.

Also on waivers were forwards Hudson Fasching, Liam Foudy, and Frederik Karlstrom. On defense, Samuel Bolduc and Grant Hutton, who had been battling for the seventh defenseman job, hit the waiver wire, along with goaltender Marcus Hogberg, who the Islanders signed this summer.

Out of this bunch, I like Foudy and Hogberg. Hopefully they can provide some depth down the road and give BP a little support.

They get a savings and that allows Wally to stay with the big club.

The Islanders can also bury up to $1.15 million of his contract. The extra cap flexibility will allow the Islanders to keep Oliver Wahlstrom on their roster to start the season. per eyeonisles.

With these roster moves, the Islanders have an $87.8 million cap hit, leaving $200,000 in cap space. The team begins their season on Thursday (Oct. 10) against the Utah Hockey Club at UBS Arena. per THW

Teams save $1.15 million sending a player down. $1.85 million count against their cap.
The $1 million saved pays Wally’s salary.
Nice to see accountability from the bottom to the top of the line up. With Roy it’s play right or you won’t play. Gotta love it.

Edit: just saw your post above NFB

Yeah Roy wants effort. He was intense as a player and also intense behind the bench. When talking about Bolduc the other day he mentioned him having talent but needs to be more consistent with effort.
4th line will be interesting as it’s the first time in a long while that it wasn’t Martin/Cc/Clutter. They have the ability to grind some goals with the talent now. Maclean isn’t talked about but he’s solid. Casey is Casey, and if Wahlstrom can score a few they should round out nicely

Has Wally looked decent in preseason? What little I’ve seen he was pretty bad.

His performance was not one of a player on his last chance with the team. He had one nice goal. I could see the team moving on from by Thanksgiving.

That was the game I actually watched pieces of when he scored.

The rest of that game he was actually noticeably bad. Lou is giving this kid every opportunity to succeed.

I'm surprised they're still giving him a chance. I get it, his shot is a weapon, but it just seems like the rest of his game isn't there.

Don't have any problem with them waiving Engvall to keep Wahlstrom though. He almost certainly won't be claimed (but holy hell would it be awesome if he was) but this may be applying a little bit of pressure on him to consider accepting a trade to some of the teams on his 16-team no-trade list.

Agree with all of this. I just can’t see any team taking him with that kind of term even if they need to add salary. Way to much term attached to it.

As far as Wahlstrom is concerned, in a perfect world, he gets his crap together knowing this is his last real stab at the NHL.

I think the knock on Wahlstrom is being lazy. Hopefully some of Cizikas and Maclean rubs off on him. Those guys work, and I think I heard Roy say something about Wahlstrom learning good lessons from them as linemates.

He may not be attractive on the waiver wire, but they may be able to attach something else to him and move him in a trade. Maybe Wahlstrom and a mid-round pick goes somewhere with him at some point. Who knows. It'd be great to rid ourselves of that contract though.

Hate giving away assets to unload contracts but it isn’t happening without it. Been happening way too much with this team imo. Not sure what Lou was smoking when he gave that to Engvall.

And just like that Stefan Rosner seems to think Columbus will bite. I don’t see it hope to be wrong.

Columbus and Anaheim are like 20 million below cap ceiling, unless I read it wrong. Doubt anyone will take him but ya never know.

The cap ceiling, maybe. But all they need to do in order to be compliant day 1 is meet the cap floor.
