well at least it happened in the context of the rebuild process, this would suck a lot more if they were a contending team and lost one of their key players like that...

Even without Laine, they do have a competitive roster. The addition of Laine was sort of an unexpected bonus (I guess). Even if he is out, there is no guarantee he would bounce back either. I don't see the level of doom some others are dealing with |

well the whole point of this low-risk move was to benefit from the potential high reward it could bring, so seeing him get injured like that even before the season starts does really suck. we don't know for sure if it would've worked out, but there's just no one comparable on the current roster that has the same set of skills to replace him in the top 6. |

I'd give Roy a shot. Or wait to see what's available with waivers, or who becomes available after camps. Jake Vrana could be worth a looky poo |

they're obviously gonna have to consider their options, especially if Laine is out long-term... it's nice if they find someone else or if another player steps up, but the situation still sucks right now. |

Savard is not getting any younger.
but for another team to be interested, Hawks would have to retain 50%.
and at that point I'm not sure it's interesting for the Hawks. so they are likely stuck with him.

Nick Robertson would be available for one of your defense prospects.
He can score and not much else but definitely the kid can score goals. |
