I can't believe the refs basically reacted the same way they did Saturday. Didn't they have a meeting where they were told: if there is a borderline move, get the player out and keep control of your game? It's the (frank)ing preseason, who cares if you throw out a plug that injured a good player! We're heading for another poopshow now, no real practicing the concepts, the chemistry, evaluating the young players... Just fighting and maybe more hurt players because of it. The NHL is such a joke... |

well at least this time around there was a penalty on the play, but yes I agree the league is a joke in many aspects, including refereeing... sadly I don't think we'll be seeing any drastic changes in that regard under the current administration, they'll never acknowledge that there's an issue and that something should be done about it.

This time they called a major initially, so they could see the replay, after review they changed it to a minor because there was no contact to the head. They went with the rulebook.

I just don't get it... They lose their stars for weeks/months because of borderline NHL players, how can that not be a problem? The players making you money are not playing and have to retire early, which means the league is losing money because of those boneheaded moves. Since the league is all about money, seems to me it should be a major problem... |

there should be fewer pre-season games, however these still generate revenue, especially in markets like MTL where people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a game that doesn't even mean anything in the end. not sure if you could completely avoid having star players against fringe NHLers, to a certain extent it's up to the players to smarten it up and not make dumb and dangerous moves on the ice during pre-season. |

I remember when a young Latendresse hoping to make the team ended Rob Di Maio’s career with a dirty hit

lol, I find the hit didn't look that bad, probably went through the concussion protocol as a precautionary measure.
