Just my two cent on the Laine hit:
It's unfortunate because you never want to see talented players hurt by an AHL plug in a preseason game.
Paré probable moved by reflex because he had no other way to stop Laine. It's not like he WANTED to hurt Laine. The result is terrible but it's the kind of plays that happen in hockey. Should have been a penalty, it wasn't called. Xhekaj lost his poop and I don't blame him.
Honestly didnt think the hit was that bad. Not like an Ulf special on Kypreose or anything, hardly targetting or intent there so wasn't expecting anything to fall on Pare like suspension or fine etc. Unfortunate outcome though. Alphabet guy doin his usual, not surprised he got the added fine today either. Think it will be more fan/media based fervor after the initial heat dies off with the players.

Agree with all of this, and I agree with tough call on this one. Hope the injury isn't as bad as it looked.

Agreed. It didn't look blatant or intentional. It reminded me of a Marchand move. Not so much dirty, as much as "I don't give a (frank) and if you get hurt, well hockey happens". If it was accidental and just "hockey happens", then it won't become a regular thing for that player. If it keeps happening again and again throughout the guy's whole career, then you know what it really is, even if it looks incidental.

I don't blame Xhekaj for losing his poop and going after Pare.
I do blame him for punching him in the back of the head with his gloves on a bunch of times. That is significantly more dangerous than the original hit.
Pare is guilty of a suspension-worthy hit. I doubt it was intentional, but he did it, it was dangerous and Laine got hurt.

Well since Paré doesn't have much of a future in the NHL... I doubt it happens that many times.

Punching with gloves on is a no no for sure. The reinforcement in the thumb area can do serious damage. This makes hockey gloves unlike boxing gloves. Like slew footing an opponent, it's not called often.

So I read that one KRex guy thinks that:
A. Laine is a star?
B. Berube thought that the Habs were in some way a threat to the Leafs (reg season or playoffs) that he wanted to go and goon it up to take out their better players?
- The AHL guy hurt JT
- the hit on Laine was a trip/maybe a knee but it didn’t have all that much intentional look to it though - but call something for sure.
- no problem with the reaction from Xhekjai but that’s a suspension for a game for sure.
- intentional or not Pare needs to pay the piper and so does Xhekjai

They haven't had a 40 goal scorer in 30 years and the last 100 point player was 40 years ago. Their definition of star player may be skewed
Yawn.....pre-season. AHL Superstars vs Bored NHL players counting the days to the regular season. I have a feeling that the Leafs are going to be a playoff team. For success, they must find a way to get the top seed in the Atlantic division. If they can do that, they can watch 2 and 3 assassinate each other and beat a wildcard team. Tired of playing the same 3 teams every playoffs. I figure the Leafs defense is better, but not sure about the room and whether they're on the same page. Goaltending looks solid for the first time in many years. Slumber time for another 10 days then we can actually see decent hockey.

Your assessment is dead on. Good on you for being a reasonable Habs fan. Hopefully Laine is not gone to long for you guys.
