He’s focusing on praising the defensive effort of these guys as he tries to instill it in all lines. It takes full commitment to the game plan from all forwards (Skinner out). Sabres have guys who can put the puck in the net, they may feast on turnovers the forechecking will create.

Unfortunately, they didn't really have a preseason. 2 home games vs no competition, then 1 exhibition. Some long breaks built in. On the positive side, no injuries and they got a lot more practice time than other teams.

Yet, Ruff is the best coach they have had since, well since Ruff.
His system is built on activating the Dmen into the Offensive zone ( remember those trailer plays in the 2005-2007 seaasonz).
Dahlin, Power and Byram could have significantly more productive offensive seasons..I am hoping ss!

You probably want me to be optimistic about the Buffalo Sabres this year and I am. You want me to like the return of Lindy Ruff and I do. Big time. You want me to believe that Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and Dylan Cozens will have better seasons than they did last year and I do.
You want me to say Rasmus Dahlin will be a great captain, Bowen Byram will turn into a boffo addition and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Devon Levi will form perhaps the best 1-2 combo of young goalies in the NHL. Yes, yes and yes.
You need to be convinced the power play will became dangerous again under new assistant coach Seth Appert, Zach Benson won’t have a sophomore jinx and a fourth line populated with newcomers will be miles better than what the Sabres have had in the past. Again: Yes, yes and yes.
My take on it is the it's not time for the Sabres to "Make the playoffs". You know, squeaking in by 1 or 2 points in the final wild card and losing in the first round. It's time for them to be a force in this league night in and night out.
