I don't believe these stats, the Flyers were not 2-2 on PP draws last night. In fdact I don't recall them winning one faceoff while on the PP. - jd250
The Flyers were 2-4 on faceoffs on the PP

They flew in day of game. NHL teams almost never do that. Entire team looked exhausted. Something was up. Positives Goaltending and Michkovs high hockey iq (again). Negatives Selke and Drysdale looked terrible. The Flyers are no longer a dump and chase team and actually have some speed now. This is not the Bobby Clarke team coming out of the lockout with Rathje. Not saying there are the 87 Oilers, but I don't see their 5v5 play as an issue in general. - 26912 PP
Last season, the Flyers were 24th in the league in both goals scored at 5 on 5 and on goals against. Neither is a good number.

LA looking for a top 4 defender. Any chance they would want a healthy Risto. There are some teams looking for help on the back end. |

Pre season is not about a realistic scenario. It is about assessing player in the case of players like that. Has this put the brakes on you pumping up McDonald? - MJL
I like MacDonald, but its clear to me that he has a long way to go. In the end his style of physical defensive play and his size should get him a bottom pairing role in the future. |

I don't question that the stats say this, but I don't believe they are correct. |

NHL scorekeepers > random fan recollection - Tomahawk
Not true. I have routinely observed the supposed NHL scorekeepers make lots of errors. |

I want to know if those that praised Harris for her poise and adamantly stated that the optic of poise superseded the lack of content she put forth will do the same for Vance. Vance not only conducted a masterclass in debate skills and etiquette, he did so with content - THE BLACK HAND
dare I say vance was presidential....will that debate help the donald? probably not enough. |

You were pumping him up all off season. He is a project player that may or may not make it into an NHL player. He has a long haul ahead. Physical defensive play and size is not enough. Have to be able to handle the puck. In the limited view I've seen of him, nothing stood out.

Is that similar to how you routinely observed the Flyers not winning a faceoff on the PP in the game last night?
The question would be who makes more errors? You or the NHL scorekeepers?

He’s not as impressive as Jonesy led us to beleive. - landros 2
Never understood why they were hyping up to begin with. I have said from when they drafted him don't see as nhl dman as I have seen him play over of the years.
then the hype started. have the flyers ever hyped up a late rd pick this much? ever? |

3 on 1, and Vance wiped the floor with all three of them. But as you say, probably not enough.

Very entertaining Jonesy hyping up this McDonald kid. Bottom pairing physical d men giving Jonesy a woody is something he should explore with his therapist. |

Pairing them together was not dumb. You want to see what they can handle on their own merit. Not paired with an NHL vet. If they can't on their own handle pre-season action. They aren't ready for the NHL - MJL You confuse me. In one way you say it's good to get the kids in with a veteran as to not throw them to the wolves. Now you are talking out the other side of your mouth, and saying it's best to put the kids together and let them stand on their own merit. Well, which is it?

It is a possibility. At the Cap hit LA would probably want to see Risto at a larger sample size in real NHL action. I could see him moved this season if his preseason carries over to the Reg season. No one in the minors has made a great case to make the team so it is also possible the Flyers might not be in any rush to move him.
Things can obviously change very fast. All it takes is for Andrae, MacDondald, Ginning, Attard ect to get hot and impress for 10 games and all of a sudden they are back in the Flyers favour. Andrae and MacDonald seem like the only ones with the potential to be 2nd pair guys. Ginning and Attard seem like 3rd pair ceiling players. As of right now though no one is really knocking at the door.

You're easily confused. The key there is "in pre-season" action. When evaluating a player IN THE PRE SEASON, you want to evaluate his play independent of veteran support to see if the player is ready for the NHL. When developing young players in the NHL, you want veteran support so you don't have to elevate young players into too big of a role that it hurts their development.
The difference between evaluating a player if he is ready to make the team versus developing young players at the NHL level who are NHL ready.
I'm not at all surprised that has to be explained to you.

McDonald has the potential to be a 2nd pair defenseman? Where did you see that? It's a small sample but I have doubts that he's ever going to be a regular NHL defenseman let alone 2nd pair.

based on what? the "jonesy" hype?
if they kings were looking for a top 4 dman, dont you think they look elsewhere before they even entertain RR?
disgraceful no one is knocking on the door. dont you think? |
