Heβs not as impressive as Jonesy led us to beleive. - landros 2
The only thing worse than the Flyers' penchant for overhyping mediocre d prospects is their ability to actually develop any of them. |

based on what? the "jonesy" hype?
if they kings were looking for a top 4 dman, dont you think they look elsewhere before they even entertain RR?
disgraceful no one is knocking on the door. dont you think? - hello it's me 2050

arent the bruins somewhat high on bussi.
maybe the head coach should be on the bench a little more in the pre season. - hello it's me 2050 since they were 3-2 without the hc on the bench and 0-1 w the hc on the bench, shouldnt he stay on the bench MORE in the preseason?

Tim Walz was impressive last night. - hello it's me 2050 Wait, was that really him? I thought that guy was the SNL version playing his character. That cannot be a real person in charge of anything, right?

You're easily confused. The key there is "in pre-season" action. When evaluating a player IN THE PRE SEASON, you want to evaluate his play independent of veteran support to see if the player is ready for the NHL. When developing young players in the NHL, you want veteran support so you don't have to elevate young players into too big of a role that it hurts their development.
The difference between evaluating a player if he is ready to make the team versus developing young players at the NHL level who are NHL ready.
I'm not at all surprised that has to be explained to you. - MJL Headspinning rhetoric!! That's what discharges from your pie hole on a daily basis. Now you changed it up and said this only applies to preseason activities. Take a star out of petty cash! Thanks!

The fact that the Flyers POHO is singling out that kind of defenseman to hype. Is terrifying.

McDonald needs more time in LVH. I was under the impression that he was a good sized RHD, that would play a physical game. Not only is he LHD, but he wasn't as physical as advertised. NHL potential may be there, but as more of a bottom pairing guy.
I did see him play in WBS at the end of last season and liked his skating and overall d. I was hoping that the added bulk (20 pounds of muscle??) would give him an edge over Zamula and some of the smaller guys fighting for a spot.
I don't like the fact that he is LHD. I don't know why last night was the first I noticed. Not sure if he can play the right side or not. LVH!
Question- Do they give Jett and Bonk ice time on Thursday night against the Utica Devils or just send them down? |

From what I saw, he needs a lot of work. If it was me, Both Bonk and Luchanko would already be back with their junior teams.

do you not think the extra week or so of nhl coaching is a good thing for their development? |

Gonna be a steep climb for him. Guys like Ginning, Lauridsen and St. Ivany had more puck skill and sense at the same age and none of them have turned into NHL regulars. |

I saw St. Ivany with WBS Pens last season and was not impressed. He could be a late bloomer and he will get a chance with Erik K. out, but he just didn't seem strong enough or quick enough. It will be interesting to see if he develops.
My 2 questions going into season are York and Farabee. If Drysdale qbs PP, then what does York bring to the table? 5-on-5 scoring? Transition? IMO he's not big enough to have a physical impact on games/teams. Farabee seems to be a forgotten player. What's his role? He doesn't score enough to be considered an offensive threat and he doesn't hit enough to be a checking role guy. Obviously just my opinion. but I thought by now he would have established his game.
I also believe Forester would be a dynamic player if he can work on his skating. I don't know enough about his issue to offer a fix. I'm not sure if it is strength or just more comfortable on his edges. He just seems unsteady out there. Everything else is there. He's strong, has a great shot, high IQ. I feel the skating will hold him back.

This is a big year for Farabee. We have to keep in mind that despite coming back from neck surgery where he lacked sufficient off season training, AND had some prolonged slumps, he still set career highs in goals, assists, and points.

York is a solid player who still has room to grow. A team needs two PP units. I'm not big on York on the PP but there is a spot for him or whomever claims the spot. I think York is going to be a solid 2nd pair NHL defenseman, he actually is already or possibly a compliment to a true #1, which of course the Flyers don't have.
On Farabee, how is a 20+ goal scorer and 50 point forward not an offensive threat? He was also a top 20 scoring LW in the league in even strength points. That's with his awful slump late in the season.

Based on what he did last season despite all the hurdles. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility to expect 60 points out of him. (10 point increase over last season)
He has had a full off season to train and no setbacks. Lets see what happens.

If you're going to imply someone of something, you should know the facts. Clearly not knowing the facts is a weakness of yours. You had your ass handed to you in a debate using facts, so now you're going to be a jackass. - MJL
No i didn't, you clearly didn't understand the fundamentals of hockey and how stats can get padded even over a long period of time,
But my original point was i think Luchanko could be better then frost now.
Yes Luchanko might have rookie mistakes but I trust him without the puck more then frost.
And you don't fully understand there a big difference in offensive zone and defensive zone start of play.
I challenge you to show me in 1 game in ovie 20 years of playing where in 1 game he had more defensive starts. You can't because it matters.
Frost takes majority of his starts at neutral or offensive zone, that matters to your stats.
Not playing on the pk and playing on the powerplay will impact stats even over long periods of time.
Stats are a great starting point to a conversation but it's still not the only metric of telling the story of a player.
For example first half of coots look great, second half he was awful.
Being hurt impacted his game.
But injury does not count on the stats

Honestly I see them finishing close to were they are now, maybe better depending on how much of star out the gate michkov is, especially on the powerplay |

Oh brother! LMAO. The effect of Couturier's injury clearly showed in his stats.
Stats are broken up in categories, such as in 5 on 5 stats, which is what most analytics are tailored to.
You still don't understand that about 70% of a players shifts in a game are on the fly starts and not zone starts. Even after I explained it to you.
Basic stats proved that your concern over Frost committing turnovers was unfounded.
I don't understand the fundamentals of hockey and how stats are padded over time. LOL The larger the sample of data, the more accurate the stat.
Luchanko is going to get sent back to juniors because he is not ready for the NHL. Frost is going to be on an NHL team
It's time to add you to the list.

Yes line changes happen the the fly but you don't do a line change when the other team has the puck in your end.
Yes it does show, but if you didn't know coots was hurt. Then the stats tell a different story.
And frost does give up the puck way to often just look at the last 5 games last year and see his costly turnovers, or when he is without the puck how soft he is.
Call me names all you want, doesn't change the fact that if it's not on a spread sheet your clueless.
But I will give you credit is you do the research to your argument.
But unfortunately stats don't tell the whole story
And you can't be on the fence and say we'll coots was hurt and it showed the impact on his stats .
Dismissive of the stats to suit a argument.
Agree it does show a sudden decline. But if you recognize that his stats don't say the full story of coots, then why does it for frost π€

Yes I agree he probably will, but without the puck his play is better, and he might not put the points up like frost right away but I don't think he be far off.
And currently he is a better 200 foot player |
